[Intro Song: The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris]
"Living With Me and My OCD"
I'm Catherine Mills
I've suffered from OCD since I was a teenager.
Probably one of the worst OCD I've ever had, because it bedridden me,
was one when I felt this incredible intrusive thought,
that I was going to basically stab my mum, her partner, and my sister.
Contamination has probably been the biggest issue, I struggle with health anxiety
Going to bed at night is quite time consuming as well.
Believing that if I touch things then I'll get ill, seriously ill at times, or even potentially die.
My OCD involves me being an obsessive checker.
'Cause I spend quite a bit of the time on the toilet as well
So I guess I'm a little funny about my water, stuff like that.
Shopping would take me about four hours from start to finish,
that's just on a little shop of say, three or four days' stuff.
Some intrusive thoughts are very distressing and unpleasant thoughts.
My name is Jay Baker and I live with somebody who has OCD.
They are there constantly, they are there now 24/7.
There is a general lack of awareness about OCD and it's symptoms.
From what I can tell there doesn't seem to be a great deal of understanding about OCD at all.
[Phone] When my first child was born, the thoughts that were coming into my head,
[Phone] I thought 'Oh My God! Why am I thinking this?'
If it got too much I'd literally put it all in the shower / in the bath,
and run the shower head and I would just spray everything with
boiling hot water, then let it dry in the bath and put everything away.
[Phone] I used to not be able to go near a window, for the fear that I could throw her out,
because I knew that I could throw her out of the window.
The door handle is at the top of the screen,
I've just watched back the footage, and part of my hair...it's like
'You've got to reshoot that because the door handle is there,
it needs to be below or on top.'
It's having it's effects because I felt like, the other day all my hands have turned blue,
because I've used too much sanitising gel.
This OCD is just like...
it's just taking over everything! [Upset]
It feeds off happiness as well I find, when you're happy it brings you down.
[Song change: Rihanna - We Found Love]
My name is Vrinda Pendred, and I am the editor and founder of
Conditional Publications.
I am shocked by all these people, all over the world,
It's just such an amazing feeling,
A publishing house specifically for writers with neurological disorders.
And hopefully getting so many different people around the world to join in this documentary
Look at the Camera! How are you feeling?
P***ed off that you recorded me!
To have many friends is to have an army. You can live again.
[THANKS FOR WATCHING! ! !]
