I like farming. Since I was little my mother grew roses. My grandfather liked to plant lettuce.
I would always help in the activities related to sowing, watering, preparing the land.
Então eu gostava disso e se tornou o sonho da mina vida. Já adulto disse por que não?
Small Solutions, Big Impact
From here we can see Calle Calle. This is the guardian hill of the people of Zudañez.
From there we can see all of our municipality.
Peaches here are very good. I think they are among the best in the country.
We planted this small tree last year. We want to fill our land with fruit trees.
We have a big problem here which is water, drought. As you can see, the river is totally dry.
Since May there is no water and that goes until December.
In 2012, Jaime bought a solar-powered irrigation system through the Criar Project.
We bought the panel in a fair. There was a fair here with the local government at the central market.
The farmers that come to our fairs are in extreme poverty.
The farmers are from distant places from the capital of the municipality.
Sometimes they have to walk for more than eight hours or by donkey.
They have to make a great effort to come to our fairs.
We offer about 180 technological packages during our fairs.
We divide them in three groups: sowing, harvest and after-harvest.
Of these, we can divide them into irrigation systems, overhead irrigation, micro-overhead irrigation, drip irrigation, ploughs,
dryers and other different types of equipment that are suitable for them.
To acquire the technology they have to go through a very sensitive process
since we provide them with a government transfer that covers 90 percent of the cost
and they have to pay the remaining 10 percent from their own pocket.
The farmer can receive the equipment in a week or up to 45 days.
The good thing was that they did not tell you have to buy this or that. You can choose freely.
When I saw the panel there, there were people explaining what the technology was good for,
what I could do with it, hat were the advantages. So I saw that was the solution for me.
I choose the solar panel because when they explained to me I saw a lot of advantages. First, I don't have much water here.
If I put a traditional water pump, my water will be gone in two or three hours. So, what will I do?
With this, I can control my water almost to the last drop. I can attach a hose and bring water to my plants, to the watering hole.
I don’t spend a cent to run this panel.
The panel changed our lives a lot.
I had to bring water in buckets to the cows, to the pigs and water my crops.
Now everything is different. It just takes me 5 minutes to change the hose
and fill the watering hole for the cows and the pigs.
I change the hose another five minutes and I have water to give my plants.
I see a good future for my family.
We have our technology that will allow us to plant about a 1,000, 2,000 fruit trees.
With this, I believe I will have a good income so my children can continue to study, be healthy.
Sometimes things that are not that big can make huge changes in the lives of people.
