>>Ives We absolutely understand that it's very, very difficult to say goodbye not knowing
what the next few days for your child will be like.
[good morning]
>> Ives In our orientation session with parents, a lot of it is focused on them, and how they're
doing, how they're managing the anxiety.
>>Wakefield We're hoping to get an orientation of what her life will be like, how we can
interact with it, you know, kind of take away the mystery of the unknown of the college
experience
>> Ives We hear a lot of students today referring to their parents as their best friends. That
sense of real deep, intimate connection may be a little bit different from what it was
like 20 years ago. Back in the day when we were dropped off at college when our parents
left, that was the last time we talked to them until they got home that night, or maybe
a few days later a phone call home. But today, students are their families are texting as
they're driving away.
>> Foy I am just so happy for the cell phone so we can be in contact. Even if we're not
talking, we can text each other
>>Wakefield Even a quick text is okay
>> Ives Communication really is key. Set an expectation that we'll talk and we'll talk
openly and honestly goes a long way
