- Good morning! - Good morning Ju.
Should I do that piece on the Hour of the Planet?
I’ll ask if we should do it Friday or on Saturday.
My name is Julía Kacowicz.
I'm a journalist
and I'm working at the Pernambuco Newspaper.
I started doing my internship in the car classified section.
I was writing articles about services, traffic,
and already some pieces about pollution.
I moved to the urban life section of the newspaper,
which deals with what’s going on around town,
and there I started working with things
related to the environment.
The articles tend to be about everyday life,
how you can notice things,
how the river pollution can affect your life.
Your electricity bill,
you’re saving money by saving energy,
And you’re helping the environment as well.
I try to show those little practices,
which are making a difference
at a local level
and show how all this, on a large scale,
will have a global impact.
The Capibaribe River is the most symbolic
river of Recife, Pernambuco.
I always heard the fishermen
who are still fighting for the river
or my grandfather telling me how it used to be.
And it's a pity when you see the current situation.
I think people have to fight for an improvement.
There are those navigability projects
providing a greater valorization
and contributing to its preservation.
Yes, I hope that one day
we will be able to swim again in the Capibaribe.
