Okay, now we're going to make some ribbons for our ballet slippers. And we'll want to,
we'll take some of this pink fondant and put that aside. Now when you put your something
aside like this, you want to place it into a plastic bag or plastic wrap to keep the
excess from drying out; we'll just set that aside, and we're going to work with this amount.
And you want to take some confectioners sugar and dust the surface and we'll roll that out.
You want to, when you're rolling out the fondant you want to keep it moving and making sure
that it's not sticking to the surface. And if it gets sticky, you just add a little bit
more and continue. So I'm just going to use a knife, and we'll cut some 3/4 inch strips.
They also have all kinds of tools for cutting, and you can just check out your cake decorating
supply store. They have lots of tools for helping work with fondant; but for right now
we're using simple techniques, we're using a knife. Now I'm going to make a bow with
this, and what you can do is, you cut about 5 inches, a 5 inch strip, and lay it on its
side, in the shape of a bow, one side of a bow. And then make a second one, and do the
same thing. Now when you leave this, it will dry, leave it up on its side to get the curl,
and when it dries it'll hold that shape. Right now if we try to put our bow down, it would
flatten out. But if we set this up on the side and leave it to dry, it will hold its
shape. Now we'll roll out some other strips to use as the ends of the bow. Now if the
fondant gets dry like this, you can just kneed it again, and you can if it gets too dry,
you can add a little bit of shortening again, coat your hands with shortening or margin,
and kneed, and that will soften up the fondant, and make it more workable. I'm just going
to add another little piece here, and we''ll roll out and make the ribbons. Okay, I've
rolled out another strip of the pink, and I'm going to cut again a couple strips of,
about 3/4 inch wide or a little wider, for ribbons. And I'll cut one piece for the center of our
bow and we can set that one up on its side, sort of in a circle that we'll stick the two
ends into, and we'll let that dry. The other ones you don't want to dry, so you can place
some plastic wrap over this, until we're ready to put the bow together.
