the senate has passed the violence against women act with no help from
twenty two republican male senators here's a picture of those individuals
markle rubios i mentioned is on that list
so it's uh... uh... mitch mcconnell the senate minority leader
and uh... did uh... you know they do this is about what we expect at this
point seventy eight to twenty two it passed of those opposing the legislation
all twenty two
where republican men
female
senator
supported the bill now
this bill for people who don't know the history of the expired during the last
congress because of republican opposition
to some provisions that were in it including that native american
undocumented analogy bt victims of domestic violence had uh... some
specific protections under that bill the different versions approved by the house
and by the senate never were reconciled so basically the bill just died without
ever being passed last year now two senators chuck grassley and john corn in
both republicans
from iowa and texas respectively
significant amendments to this bill
grass lease amendment stripped all of the native american elegy beatty an
undocumented victim protections that was voted down thursday of last week
and corn ins
amendment aimed too
uh... it was basically just related to tribal lands in that part failed on
monday and it's incredible to me that
it's almost like native american women aren't even really considered humans
like everybody else according to to these amendments it's it's really
disgusting
uh...
it pass so where we can be happy about that we can be happy about that but we
can't be happy about the fact that native american women at some of the
highest domestic violence rate sex trafficking rates uh... a lack of access
to resources anywhere in the country they need a pill ability is more than
anybody
and there are republicans republican men
who specifically want to prevent this bill from cut from including that it's
disgusting right right
ike can't even begin to grasp brevard logic behind that write something about
freedom the deficit and uh... the rule of law assistant is that about it in
time
both seems kind of a perverse idea of freedom i mean now is that took the we
took their freedom historically and now we're gonna
take if their freedom again away again i'd guess i mean they're logic is that
somehow reservations for the old do whatever they want the what ends up
happening
white men from outside of the tribe who marries women and they can't be tried
for a committing acts of violence against them that's what this is trying
to address mia
