Hey there. Today we are talking about the wonderful world of washing clothes, and specifically
washing your colored clothes. First thing I like to do with my laundry is sort it. Sorting
laundry is really important. Now you're probably wondering, "Why do I have to go through that
trouble? Can't I just scoop it all up off the floor and throw it into the washing machine?"
The answer to that, unfortunately, is no. I know you think you're going to save time
by taking all those clothes and just throwing them in, but what's going to happen is, inevitably,
you're going to mix colors and I don't know if you've ever turned anything that's supposed
to be white pink, like your husband's underwear. You don't want to do that. So, I'm going to
teach you a simple, easy way to sort your clothes. So first off, I like to take my pinks
and reds. I have a nice pink sweater here, and I have my little red dress, and I put
them in one pile. Anything pink and red. If you are doing whites on that day, keep your
pinks and reds far away from your whites. The reason you do this is you don't want any
of these guys defecting over to the white camp, and then, like I said, it's going to
be kind of a pinkish color in the end. So keep them separate just while you're sorting
so you don't have any confusion. Then next after that is I do my yellows and my greens,
and my oranges. Just kind of shake everything and look at the colors, and put them together
in my second pile over here. Really easy. The next thing I like to do is I like to do
my darks, my dark blacks and my grays. Again, why you don't want to wash these with your
whites is that you don't want to turn your whites dingy, to have that kind of grayish
tint. You want your whites to be bright white. Also, something about socks. So many people
complain, "I've lost my sock. I only have one sock. My socks are always missing!" Well,
this is a trick that I do, is I make sure that I have both socks, the pair, and then
I just kind of put them together like this. Of course I'll undo them when I'm washing
them, but then I know for sure that I've seen both socks and the sock fairy can't get them.
So go ahead and do that. Lastly, what I do is my denims, my heavy denims, blacks, blues,
together. Unless it's the first time washing them, and that's a separate issue. But that
is the last pile that I make. So here we have it. Sorting your piles -really simple thing
to do. It will save you time, it will save your clothes, preserve some of that color.
There's our piles, really, really simple. It's the way that you want to go about it,
and this is a great way to sort and get ready to wash your clothes.
