Hello! I am here with Conor Clyne. I met Conor in Budapest and he speaks many
languages. So this will be a multilingual video ...
and Conor will respond in the language that I am going to ask him about.
The first language I will ask you about is French.
When did you start learning French? Ok. I learned French at school and then I
had classes at university. In addition, I lived in France.
I was on Erasmus (foreign exchange program) there ...
and I worked in Brussels for several years. So French was my first foreign language.
And what was the second foreign language that you learned?
After French I started with Italian. I studied in Bologna in the north of Italy.
In fact, I am passionate about Italian culture ...
in particular, the food and the language. Italian was relatively easy for me to learn
... thanks to my knowledge of French.
After Italy, you went to the States. What did you do there?
Yeah, that's right. I went to live in Washington DC for two years.
I studied and I worked there. There I learnt my Spanish.
I lived in a Spanish-speaking neighborhood in Washington ...
and every day I spoke in Spanish in the restaurants [and] in the shops, for example.
Not only Spanish, you picked up there but also Portuguese.
Can you tell us something about the experience ...
you have with Portuguese and why you like Brazil so much?
Yes. I went to Brazil for the first time 10 years ago.
I went for New Year's Eve with a Carioca (friend from Rio de Janeiro).
And now I go almost every year to Brazil. I go for the carnival.
Carnival takes place normally in February. It is an amazing party and very important
in Brazilian culture. So that's one thing that you really like about
the Brazilian culture. You travel very often to Brazil but ...
you have also been to Russia many times. I guess that's where you learnt Russian.
Is that right? Yes. I also studied a little bit of Russian
at university ... and I really like Russian culture ...
Russian literature .... and ... Russian history as well.
Nowadays I travel frequently to Russia. One of the other languages that you speak
is Romanian. Why did you decide to study Romanian?
I speak a little Romanian. At the moment, I am learning the Romanian
language. Romanian is a language of Latin origin.
Romania is diverse country. There are regional differences between Walachia,
Moldova and Transylvania. At the moment, you are learning Catalan as
well. Can you say something in Catalan?
Catalan is a language [also] of Latin origin. It is spoken mainly in the north of Spain,
in Catalonia. It is similar to other Romance languages like
French, Italian and Spanish. For the last two years you have been living
in Munich. What is your experience with Munich?
Do you like the city? Did you learn the language? Was it easy for you to pick it up?
Yes, I worked in Munich for two years. Yes, Munich is a beautiful city in southern
Germany. It is also the home of the world famous Oktoberfest
(beer festival). [It is] not far from the mountains.
So yes, one can go easily to the mountains ...
to ski, for example, or to hike. Really nice!
At the moment, we are in Holland so we should speak Dutch as well.
This time you came here, did you get a chance to practice your Dutch?
Yes, I have really spoken a lot of Dutch [here] in the Netherlands.
I have been here for the [last] two days near to Eindhoven.
It is really nice here ... the people as well! Yes, Conor. Your Dutch is very good.
Thank you for the interview! Thank you!
