Hello! We are here at the Musikmesse 2014 in Frankfurt.
And today we show off Wavelab 8.5, with its 4 new core features.
Wavelab 8.5 will be available shortly, probably in june.
And now I´m gonna show you it´s new features.
The first new feature its the Encoder Checker.
The Encoder Checker enables you to preview audio in realtime, ...
...before it get´s encoded and saved.
Think of a mp3-file.
You probably know the problem, where you master a song, export an mp3-file, ...
…and when you listen to the mp3 you realize it does not sound as good as before - to put it lightly.
How did you deal with this problem so far?
You opened the file again in Wavelab...
...and adjusted something.
Maybe you did some equalization or adjustments to the loudness of the song.
Than you exported it again; until it eventually sounded better.
This was time consuming, and nerve-stretching.
And for this reason we introduced Encoder Checker.
Encoder Checker enables you to preview and compare 3 different codecs in realtime.
For example mp3 or mp2.
This means, you know immediately, how you mp3 will sound like.
You don´t need to export. You have hear it in realtime.
And you can compare 3 different formats.
So you can choose the best encoder.
There is A/B comparison.
There is also A/B/X comparison.
This means you can do a blind test, without getting influenced, by the values you set.
So you can decide blindly, which condec is the best….
…and if you want to use a certain codec.
And what is most important in my opinion...
…because most times your customer requires a specific codec anyway (for example mp3 256 kbit/sec)...
… if you encode a file no clipping should occur.
But especially when encoding at low bitrates, clippings often occur.
Particularly if you take true peak level into account.
You can avoid such clippings using Encoder Checker.
You can set your monitoring point post Encoder Checker.
Thus you´ll see, if clipping occurs in the encoder.
Accordingly you can reduce the level in wavelab, or use a limiter.
And this is quite helpful.
In addition to previewing and comparing, you can export files directly from Encoder Checker...
…or you can open batch processing.
That was Encoder Checker.
The Second new feature is aac-export.
AAC is mp4, and it is used by iTunes.
It is actually the format of the future, when it comes to encoded audio.
Many people say it will detach mp3.
I am not sure how long this will take.
But anyway, it sound fantastic; also when using low bit-rates.
We implemented the Frauenhofer-encoder, which provides all established formats, required by iTunes and so on.
AAC is also avalible in the Encoder Checker.
This was feature number 2.
Feature number 3 is...
… multi-format export.
So far you could export audio for example as wave...
as flac...
as mp3...
…but you could only export one format at the time.
Even with batch processing you could choose 15 000 files...
...and process them all at once with certain plugins..
…but you could only choose one target format.
For example wav or mp3.
And if you wanted to have an additional format, you needed to export again.
This is not necessary anymore.
Now you can choose any number of target formats...
…and export them all at once.
For example: the source file is wav.
And traget files are wav, mp3, flac and so on.
This is unbelievable timesaving;
a really important new feature.
And finally...
my favorite feature of Wavelab 8.5:
…Watch Folders.
What´s that?
You define a folder on your hard drive or in your network...
…and add certain tasks to the folder.
For example a mastering-chain.
You create a mastering-chain in Wavelab:
maybe you use a limiter to remove peaks in the signal...
…maybe you add a stereo enhancement...
… and tape saturation.
You can save this effect-chain as a preset...
…and add it to a folder.
After this you can close Wavelab or leave it open, it does not matter.
You´ll have a folder where you can just drop in files...
…and the folder performs the tasks you added.
You don´t need to start Wavelab for this. It all happens in the background.
And all this is possible in a network as well.
If a company, for example radio france, buys one license of Wavelab...
…and the marketing department puts a file in the watch folder for conversion...
…the sales department can take the converted file from the network folder, and profit from this cool new feature.
I think that´s a lot of new functionality for a small intermediate update from 8 to 8.5.
It will cost about 49 EUR.
It is the first intermediate update we offer for Wavelab.
And ever feature on its own is worth 49 EUR.
So it is really worth buying!
