Today, our field correspondent Sean Abley
is at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood
for a release party for a very unique
coffee table book.
Hey everybody, I'm Sean Abley.
And we are here at the opening party for
"Crystal Lake Memories, The Complete History of Friday The 13th."
Now, you know me. I'm a complete book worm,
and a huge horror movie fan, so I couldn't be more excited to be here tonight.
We're gonna talk to a lot of people at the party.
We're going to hopefully not get killed by a machete, fingers crossed,
so, let's go.
Never in the course of film history has a single date meant so much to our culture
than that of Friday the 13th.
[cheering]
Tonight we celebrate 25 years of chills, thrills, and kills.
And all the courageous folks who made it possible.
Todd Farmer, -Yes.
writer of "Jason X", and as many people have probably recognized you now,
an actor in "Jason X". -I like that I'm one of the few characters
in this franchise that die in squats. I mean, I die by getting my head
chopped off. And then I die again by getting my head smashed.
Okay, screw this. Game over.
I am in "Friday the 13th, part I". -Part I.
Part I. And I hold the very prestigious distinction of being the first victim
of all the "Friday the 13th"s.
So, how does it feel to be part of such a huge pop culture industry, really?
It's terrific. I mean, people stop me all the time and I'm surprised,
because, I did this movie you know, so many years ago.
And people still recognize you and they stop you and tell you
it was one of their favorite movies. I think horror fans are amazing.
They're really, they're devoted and they'll watch your career forever.
So, here we are with the man, Peter M. Baracke,
author of "Crystal Lake Memories The History of Friday The 13th".
So, the first you and I met -Yes.
was... How many years ago was that? Like 2, 3 years ago?
It was 3, it was a little over 3. -At a screening of "Friday the 13th 3D"
and this one leapt out of his seat to win a contest by naming all
the "Friday the 13th" movies in sync, what's including the ultimate titles.
And now, 3 years later, you have a book. -Yes. 3 y- Almost to the day. Yeah, a lot of work.
That's insane. -It's nuts.
So how many people did you interview? Just out of curiosity.
208. -I was gonna say approximately,
but apparently it's -208, yes. I know it by heart.
It took 2 years. So, when I officially made a list it was like 50 people.
And then, I thought, well maybe if I can get, you know, 60 it'll be great.
And then it kept going and going and then pretty soon you know,
I'm interviewing people who were like, killed for around 2 to 5 seconds, and then
you know, that would see where they were killed.
So basically, I had sort of stopped and figured out, okay, what's the most important...
That was so much fun. I mean, I quickly found many people that said yes.
I saw Peter Baracke's book and I think it's so good.
It's so surprising to see something that's, that's extremely well-made,
doesn't pander to the audience, isn't a quickie kind of rip-off based on the title.
He found himself in service of this idea and he did a terrific job.
He's really set the mark. I don't know how any other book like this can do anything
but become compared to it. I think Peter has really done a terrific job.
Thanks, Sean. "Crystal Lake Memories"
is a must-have book for any "Friday the 13th" or horror fans.
It is the ultimate behind-the-scenes memoir of the most successful
horror franchise in the history of film.
So, pick up your copy today, if you can, it's pretty heavy,
and read the book.
Until next time, I'm James Michael Tyler.
Goodbye.
