The first time I sat down with the patient with a new diagnosis of colon cancer. We often
talk about what is colon cancer. We talk about the stages of colon cancer. We talk about
how there needs to be a workup to make a difference in knowing what the stage is and we talk about
possible outcomes and I think what I emphasize to patients is having a diagnosis of colon
cancer does not mean you are going to die, that many patients and exactly in the majority
of patients who have colon cancer actually can be treated very successfully, get cured
of the disease, but it is important to know that one needs proper staging and proper treatment
to maximize your chances of getting cured or if you can not get cure to at least control
the illness and live a long period of time.
