I went in initially to take care of my family, and then it
just kind of turned into a way of life.
I spent my first seven years working on ground vehicles,
and then I reclassed into a Chinook mechanic.
My dad served.
My grandparents served.
So I joined, and it made a big difference in my life.
And I'm very glad that I did.
I served four years active duty and then went two years
reserve and then met him.
And because he was Special Ops, I needed to get out to
stay home with the kids.
Well, we're a blended family.
And so my biggest concern was being able to take care of her
and all the kids no matter where they went
if something happened.
And so adding to what I already had was the route that
I chose to take.
And I called USAA and signed up for USAA insurance.
A lot of people think, well, I'm not going
to die right now.
I'm not going to die anytime soon.
And so they don't think that they need it.
Well, if something was to happen to me, I'm the primary
breadwinner in this household.
And so what would happen to my family if I didn't?
I hurt my back a couple years ago flying.
And I was actually medically separated.
After them not being able to completely fix it to where I'd
be able to my job completely, they separated me.
Insurance, after having a disability, was going to be a
lot higher.
And so I was calling around to find out what my options were.
I had the VA.
I could have gotten from them.
And so I called them up and got their prices.
And then I called USAA because I always compare USAA to
everything.
And they start telling me, well, you have this rider.
We don't need to do any kind of medical or anything on you
because you had already had insurance with us.
And so that's when I found out about it.
Being able to switch the $400,000 I already had, it
wasn't that I was losing insurance.
I was just moving it somewhere else.
And it cost a little bit more than what I was having to pay
in the military.
But it didn't cost anywhere near what I was going to have
to pay anywhere else, especially with having the
disability.
They didn't charge more because of having the
disability.
It switched right over.
And it was no problems.
It was really easy.
One phone call.
I think it's great for them to be not only reaching out to
people that are currently in service but also reaching out
to the ones that are past service because they all
deserve the same recognition.
You served this country.
You're a veteran.
And so the service doesn't end.
You're not going to get [INAUDIBLE].
That's something you'd have to do afterwards.
Airborne, you can get.
I have two definitely that will go in the military.
And the third one, don't know if he's going to
definitely or not yet.
But I think that everybody should spend some time in so
they serve the country and they get that sense of--
Pride.
Pride.
Yeah.
