>> Court: I’m here at Practical Cycle in Old Sacramento talking with Cassidy. How’s
it going, Cassidy?
>> Cassidy: Great.
>> Court: Well, I noticed all these cool cruiser bikes and there’s just like a whole rack
of them. Normally, this is an electric bike shop. They do rentals and stuff. So I was
curious. You know, what makes these so good? They’re Breezer brand and I was going to
get a quick overview. So tell me about this, Cassidy.
>> Cassidy: So, we love Breezer so much because they’re really a complete package. You really
can’t find an American brand that can come anywhere near it in terms of all the practical
features that this comes stock with. So you can pin down and we’ll just walkthrough
some of it quickly. So this fully enclosed chain case is a big deal. You just really
don’t see that with American brands of bikes. And it’s also got this traditional either
call it cafe lock or a frame lock. And you can see the internally geared hub there. And
also, the big thing is this generator lights, front and rear.
>> Court: Cool.
>> Cassidy: Just not such a common thing and, of course, you got the standard fenders and
kick stand. And the thing that’s really nice about this as opposed to a traditional
European style city bike is it’s made for an American audience, so it’s actually a
lot faster. It’s lightweight, it’s aluminum frame and the geometry of it is not quite
as upright as a traditional European bike. It’s a different culture here and, you know,
we’re busy people, places to go. You know, it’s not the laid back, you know, European
attitude. And so these are, it has everything that you would, you know, ever want on a bike
but it’s very fast and lightweight and so people just love them.
>> Court: And as you mentioned, so it’s got that 8 speed internally geared [wear]
hub and you can shift if you’re even at standstill, so you’re at a stoplight or
stop sign, you can shift that thing down to an easier gear to get going.
>> Cassidy: Yup.
>> Court: And then, yeah, the front and rear fenders that you mentioned and these nice
chain guards. So you’re not going to get wet or greasy or anything, it seems like.
>> Cassidy: Yeah.
>> Court: And so this is an American brand, Breezer?
>> Cassidy: Yeah.
>> Court: Okay. Do you know where they’re based out of and…
>> Cassidy: Well, it’s distributed by Advanced Sports and that’s at Philadelphia. Joe Breeze
is the man that designs them and he’s somewhere in Marin and he’s kind of well known for
building the first mountain bike or something like that.
>> Court: Interesting.
>> Cassidy: Yeah.
>> Court: Is he related to the Marin Bicycle Company at all?
>> Cassidy: I don’t know.
>> Court: Okay.
>> Cassidy: But I don’t think so.
>> Court: It’s a popular area for bikes up here.
>> Cassidy: There was a group of, you know, Gary Fisher and Joe Breeze and I don’t know
who the other people are but they were kind of the original mountain bikers that would
go down Mount Tamalpais. Yeah. And Joe Breeze has always advocated bicycles as transportation
and he saw mountain biking as a way to get more people interested in bikes.
>> Court: Yeah. And they’re kind of cool. You’re mentioning sort of the American way,
it’s like faster and so the off-road and stuff and it really seems like they’ve captured
a niche here and this one in particular, it’s like under 1000 bucks to have all those features
to have the lights, everything built in. We were just talking about lights earlier. It’s
nice. You don’t have to worry about batteries replacement or anything. You’ve already
got a standard size gauge on this rack, so [panniers] are going to work. It’s got the
little, you know, spring loaded clip. It’s a cool bike and these nice V-brakes. So I
really appreciate it. Breezer, it’s a cool company and it looks like they come in all
kinds of colors, high step, low step. Just really, really good stuff. So thank you, Cassidy.
>> Cassidy: You’re very welcome.
