Recruitment News Headlines I am Rachel Downie. Welcome to Recruiter TV,

- We start our monthly roundup with an announcement that the Government plans to reduce the current
90 day consultation period for redundancies of 100 employees or more down to just 45 days.
This will come into effect in early April. Jo Swinson, the employment relations minister,
has this to say; "the process is usually complete well within the existing 90 day minimum
period, which can cause unnecessary delays for restructuring and make it difficult for
those affected to get new jobs quickly". However not everyone in the recruitment community
agrees. Ian murray shadow employment relations minister argues "David Cameron should be
making it easier to hire, not easier to fire. We need a real plan for jobs and growth, not
an attack on people's rights to work". - The office of fair trading has confirmed
that they will examine "defined-contribution" schemes for employers. This investigation
will take place as an estimated 9 million workers over the next 5 years will be automatically
enrolled onto one of these schemes. The office of fair trading wants to ensure standards
are maintained for both employer and employee benefit.
They have advised that the areas to be investigated will include:
* Competition between pension providers and market development
* Standards that ensure pension providers keep charges down and keeps information readily
available * Barriers to switching between schemes
* And a look at smaller firms to determine any difficulties they may have.
- And finally a warning to SME HR managers, who are being targeted by cyber criminals,
with security data breaches rising from 18 per cent to 30 per cent in 2012. HR managers
are an attractive target as they hold a large amount of employee's personal information.
Additionally, HR Managers are seen to be an easy entry level point, as they are more likely
to open unknown emails from unknown senders and click on the links. So be aware, make
sure you have a stable and resilient system which is secure within a mobile environment
