(Rich Fairbank) One of the keys to founding a company is that you
need a really big, bold idea. You know if the idea is
to just do something a little bit better... Who'd be
excited about that.
[Music]
The idea for Capital One came
to me when I realized the banking business is
about to be turned upside down. And in fact where
the world is going about technology information and
the power of what smart people can do.
(Bill Cillufo) It really isn’t that important to understand financial services,
to understand Capital One because in many ways, we don't
feel like a typical bank. We feel more like a start up in
Silicon Valley or somewhere else.
(Heather ***) Capital One has an amazing meteoric rise over the past
several years going from a monocline credit card company to
a full service banking institution where we are entering into
a space where we will be in the top five of national banks.
It's an incredible rise in a short period of time
and it's driven by our people.
(Laura Fuentes) The only real sustainable competitive advantage for any
one company is its' people. The sheer power of their energy,
of their ideas, of their problem solving is really what has
taken this company to new levels.
(Rich Fairbank) It's not about how many tree rings you have, it's not about the
power of your resume, it's about the power of your ideas.
(Bill Cillufo) You definitely don't need a lot of experience to make an
impact at Capital One. We're always having to think up
new ideas and try new approaches of ways of solving
problems and that's why it's so great to bring in new
people all the time.
(Heather ***) We'd be crazy not to listen to people who walk in the front
door and it's really fun to get to engage with the new people
that join Capital One.
(Rich Fairbank) One of the most important insights that drive our company
is the wisdom of a crowd. The notion that each of us has
part of the answer.
(Steve Mugford) Ours is a culture of debate. We talk about competition of
ideas, not people. It's not personal, but it is incredibly rigorous.
We've just got a fantastic culture where people really love
working together and a place where people can really come
in and make a huge difference.
(Rich Fairbank) Financial services are deeply a part of everyone's life. Our
journey is about changing people's lives for the better. It's
about enabling their dreams with smarter ways to save,
and invest and borrow wisely.
(Heather ***) We are in a place where we are making a difference for
people and I would argue that we are well positioned to
take our industry into the future driving better
innovation for people in general.
(Steve Mugfold) The industry is just going through an incredible series of
changes right now. If we have the continuing courage and
ability to be the beginners and to look at our business fresh
every day we have the chance to build something truly great here.
(Kleber Santos) I very much believe that I'm helping write history and it sounds
incredibly loft, sounds incredibly ambitious, but the reality is
there's absolutely no way banking will be done 10 years from
now the same that it has been done for the last 100 years.
(Rich Fairbank) We're in a very cool place right now. I think the most exciting,
most transformational, the most entrepreneurial days that we
will ever have are the ones coming up now.
