[When is a computer, not just a computer?]
At the Center we use technology to create professional learning networks
where educators can use communication and collaboration tools
for "just in time support" to share resources,
share strategies with one another. [When is a game, more than just play?]
One of the things games and simulations offer
teachers is the ability to personalize
the instruction for kids. Not every kid starts
at the same level, not every kid has the same skills or interest.
And using this type of technology,
you really can customize a lesson,
a learning experience, based on the child them self. [When are data more than just numbers?]
When they have these high quality data systems, they are better
able to answer the types of questions that are important in education right now.
Such as, do programs
effectively serve children and families? Are children performing better
in particular settings in particular programs, and why
might this be happening. So those are the types of questions that states are able
to answer when they have these robust high quality data systems.
[When will we know the future of education has arrived?]
Children learn best when play and
learning are combined. There's not a distinction between
now it's time to take the test and now
let's go do our activity. It's all intertwined and
ingrained. That's when they learn best at home,
they learn best in the community, and they learn best at school.
