we have seen that it works for everyone
which is not something that is designed
for personality disorders
but it also helps in personality disorders
and I also think that if you improve
in general, the society
you are also improving the people
with personality disorders
this is called REMA
and it means Restructuring Atemporal Memories
and it comes from the Spanish acronymic ... OK?
then...
it is about Results, Treatment
and a New approach
and points to be discussed
Conscious and unconscious
Fragmentation vs. wholeness
and Memories and its influence
Developed by REHUBA
Research on Human Behaviour Applied
by me and
Dr. Ulises Diego
when we think of the personality disorder
we may be thinking fragmentarily
If we were a physician and we get a person with a sick liver
what we look at is a sick liver
Usually, we tend to pay attention to the part
without considering the whole
Behind a sick liver there is complete body
a sensory system, a brain
that stores and interprets the signals coming from those sensing organs
based on a particular history of accumulated memories
accumulated through the inheritance -genes-
the culture -nemes- and the complete and complex stream of life
We have instead this tendency to treat a liver as if it were isolated from the context
We may also try to fix it by introducing elements from outer sources
as medicines, for instance
We, usually or frequently
minimize the inherent capacity of that organism to re-accommodate itself
working as a whole
and having the tools provided by nature to have a more harmonious life
Internal harmony would result in sanity for the body and for the mind.
and excuse me if I still do the separation between body and mind
but this is still common language... żok?
In this process of fragmentation to which we are so used
and going back to the subject of personality disorders
we come to deal with the part: the disorder itself
In the brain functions
or the other side, an aspect of the partition is the PFC
conscious activity
conscious mind
and from that part we try to have
we've tried and have been doing it for decades
to analyze the specific condition
manipulating toward understanding and modification of conducts
then, first, we are going to go to this, which
which of course you know but this is just a reminder
4500 million years ago
was the creation of the earth
then, 1000 million years after
3 thousand and 500 hundred million year ago
was the beginning of life
here
here we have 400 million years ago
the insects appeared
do you see the difference in time already?
300 million years ago
we had reptiles
200 million years ago
we had dinosaurs
and here you see the difference
this is just amazing
you'll see where I am going
can you see well?
sure?
ok because you are invited to move...
to that part of the room
I have no problem if you want to... [laughs]
um... 2.5 million years ago
the genus ***
something similar to us today
and here we've been talking about millions
and out of the sudden we are talking about
2 hundred thousand
2 hundred
2 hundred thousand years ago
we had the *** sapiens
and 30 thousand years ago
we had the appearance
of human consciousness
pre-frontal cortex
then
what we are trying is to fit everything
from these little part
let's go to the next one and see
if it is more explicit
if we put that
in...hum..one year
this is the beginning of one year and
this is the end of the year... ok?
we have the beginning of life on earth
and we have all this period
but there is nothing
until the insects appeared
reptiles is November 20
November 30th
Dinosaurs December 11th
genus *** December the 31st!
*** sapiens December the 31st
different hour
and consciousness last minutes
and seconds, a point to remember
of December the 31st
then
all these up to here
happened without the appearance
of consciousness
without us being able to analyze
anything
then, we need
maybe to relocate ourselves
in what conscious can do
ok?
then, at REHUBA
Research in Human Behaviour Applied
we have done a completely different road
and applied a completely different map
We access the unconscious and the memories stored there
with no intervention of the conscious part
just NO intervention of the little conscious part
ok?
the rest of the memories, everything, are the unconscious mind
and... we consider the individual as a result of
and not as a constructing block of society
nature or whatever larger system
we are going to the next part
conscious and unconscious
do you see well? I'm a little bit worried...ok
let me sit a little bit...
then
here is the mind
here is the unconscious mind
with 95 to 98 percent
here is the conscious with 1 to 5 percent
and also your subconscious is a movie
going at the speed of 40 million bits per second
while...
it is not going very fast...
while the conscious neo cortex goes 40 bits per second
the 40 million thing
40 million thing
against the 40 bits
which one is more powerful?
that movie 40 million per second
or the conscious mind 40 bits per second
mm?
which is more powerful?
we already have the answer
ok?
then...
society, nature, system vs. individuality
we usually think that a society
is made of individuals
one person + other person + other person
make the society
and that is just inversed, completely inversed
and it is pure logic
because society, nature, system
needs to perpetuate itself
and create the individuals to perpetuate itself
ok?... then...
has to place all the memories
and all the information
for that big part to perpetuate
like the cells of your body
you know?...
for the senior with your brain
that is the center, that is a senior
for the cells in your body
ok?
then
we get to the bottom in a different way
we consider the totality of the human being
not only the personality disorder
and help and allowing intelligence of the complete system
to re-accommodate
organizing and cleaning the neural networking
toward a state of harmony
sanity and a far better survival
now, I am gonna show you some results
that belong to another power point
the results are from tests with the MCMI-III
are all with the same... then
subject A: 5 hours given
schizoid
prior
after
avoidant
prior
after
this is considered to be normal
depressive
prior... after
dependent
prior... after
same subject
after the same 5 hours
aggressive (sadistic)
and was really, really, really,
aggressive
it took six hours
to put him here
ok?
he is sweeter than me and that's for sure
ok, compulsive
approximately the same
passive aggressive
before, after
self-destructive before...and this is a zero
there is nothing there
ok, same subject
five hours
anxiety
that was attached to the aggressiveness..ok?
prior...after
do you see here?
it's a zero...ok
then somatoform
here, prior..after
bipolar
bipolar always stays the same
or approximately the same
with this technique
dysthymic
prior...after
same subject
post trauma stress
prior...after
thought disorder
prior...after
major depression
prior...after
delusional disorder
he was approximately the same
subject B hours: 10
it's not months
it's not weeks
it's hours...ok?
schizotypal
prior..after
borderline
it's the same
paranoid
prior...after
then it's nice to see that
if he still has some of this
not big, but that is still there
without the paranoid
without the schizotypal
he is having a better life anyways
then, same subject, B
10 hours
schizoid prior..after
avoidant
depressive
dependant exactly the same
subject B also
thought disorder
went to normal
major depression
delusional disorder
this is very interesting
went down to zero
then subject C
am I going to fast?
it's fine...ok
it is fun?! [discrete laughs]
good, then we're in the right path
ok...subject C hours: 10
schizoid
avoidant
depressive
went to zero
dependant went to zero
subject C still 10 hours
anxiety
do you remember the anxiety?
it was very, very high?
zero
somatoform
zero
bipolar
didn't move
dysthymic
zero
subject C same subject
thought disorder
change a little bit
major depression
down to normal
delusional disorder
same
there are 11 subjects in the study
and all improved
they continue improving after one year
in the majority of cases almost no
difference was found for
bipolar and OCD
augmentation was observed in some
tendencies were there were low
like histrionic and narcissistic
and biggest impact in Anxiety
somatoform and depression
second level impact: post trauma stress squizoid, schizotypal
and our given at this moment near 500 to 90 patients
this is new, and that's why we are presenting it here
when the first...for the first time an atom was split
and where the first modern computer was built
and city of more than 22 novel prizes
I feel very good presenting it here for the first time [discrete laugh]
I feel like... Oh my God!
people trained in the first level of application at this moment: 6
two in USA and
four in Spain
and this is Restructuring Atemporal Memories REMA
last thing, uh, we also had
improvement
uh... in a remission of muscular dystrophy
that had 29 years of evolution
it stopped and remised
and we had psoriasis disappeared
and a letter that is about cell mutation that a MD from Barcelona observed
in a patient and wanted to report
and that's all If you have any questions
[applause]
QUESTION: could you say briefly what the treatment is? what procedure is?
ok, I will tell you something, I want to be sure nobody is recording it
If a nice
gentlemen comes to me
and ask me
can you tell me what an *** is?
what would you do with him? start explaining?
or what?
what happens
is that it is so innovative that it takes
0ne hundred hours to really explain
what the parts are, what I can tell you is that
it has two
main (parts)...
the first is to locate
the memories that are disturbing
because we... we have memories
that are there and that's OK, but we have other memories that
are coated with a negative emotion
and that... those memories coated with negative emotion we called them
atemporal memories...ok?
why?.. because they
not stay
when the episode really happened the dog bit me when I was two years old
and that is not happening now
and I'm still very scared when I see a dog
it's affecting me now... those memories are travelling in time
those that have that blue
of the negative emotion attached
then
in an absolutely unconscious way we go for those memories
we rate the disturbance level
of those memories
and that could be 8, 10... 1 to 10 scale..um
we do physical procedures
movements
combination of movements
movements
legs, feet, hands, arms, eyes
specific combinations, like key combinations
for each thing
and then
the emotion
goes away and the memory stays intact and we return the memory to the brain
that's basically what we do
QUESTION: can you, um, tell me if there is any difference or similarity to EMDR?
yes of course
um... if you are going to dance a tango
no, I have another... a better one
the tango one comes later...ok?
um
the EMDR
and this are like a pizza or a salad
they both have tomato
but they are not the same
and for the tango... I like the tango
I dance tango too.. then
ok
for the tango is like...
tango is a dance composed by several figures...then
if you want to
do a walk
one of the figures is a walk you walk
then...
you walk, but you're not dancing a tango
then EMDR should be
the walk or a figure 8 in a tango
but it's not the complete tango
it uses some elements of tango
it's a lot more complex
MODERATOR: one last question
In bipolar and PTSD
what ratio are you expecting to succeed?
in those two conditions we still didn't have
any big luck... what happens is that
by making all the other things, like anxiety
or paranoid or schizoid personality, avoidant
when you change everything and the person is in a better condition
is ready
and able to work
on his specific condition
then they got better
MODERATOR: ok...
MODERATOR: thank you very much everyone
[applauses]
