Hi. I'm Charly Duffy for the Dulux 'how to' series on exterior surfaces.
Add a touch of Tuscany to your courtyard or garden with Dulux Texture Tuscan. It has a
soft texture profile and can help lift the tone of a variety of surfaces; including brick,
concrete, fibre cement and masonry. Texture Tuscan is a water based, exterior
paint that creates the soft washed look of Tuscany.
Here are the tools you'll need to get the job done.
You'll need a Wide brush, a Medium nap roller, some Quality masking film or external grade
tape, a Drop sheet and a Stirring paddle. As always, mask off any areas that need protection
and lay down a drop sheet to protect your floor.
Before you start with any painting project its important to make sure your surface is
clean and well prepared. There are some useful tips on surface preparation on the product
label.
Give your Texture a thorough stir using a broad flat paddle. Then 'cut in' to any doors,
trims or corners using a suitably sized brush. Now you can apply the first coat of Texture
Tuscan with a roller. The surface should be ready for a 2nd coat
in about 4 hours.
Now, if you're going for the 'washed' effect, its much easier to work with a partner.
Have one person apply the texture with a roller and the other person brush over this coat
in a random, criss-cross pattern. Work in an area of about one meter and overlap
your criss-cross sections to maintain an even texture.
Dulux Texture Tuscan lightens in colour as it dries so the full effect of the washed
look won't be apparent for half an hour or so.
If you're after a smoother looking finish, just apply the 2nd coat with a roller.
Naturally, Texture Tuscan comes in a variety of colours and is available in a sample pots
for you to try and test your colour choice. If you would like further painting tips on
interior and exterior surfaces, be sure to have a look at our other Dulux 'how to' series.
Worth doing, worth Dulux.
