*musical intro* ... hi there
yep, so I'm back again. just gonna explain
some conclusions that's i've come to
also what i practice these days
...
these days i'm ...
i've been led
and after some research and study
i've come to the conclusion that
gentiles
are supposed to ...
gentiles - that means "non-jews", people who are ... everyone else who isn't a jew
they're supposed to keep
the seven
Noahide laws
now the seven Noahide laws ... they're called "Noahide"
because
the seven were at least
finally
brought together
at the covenant of noah
at the covenant of Noah ... so previously Adam had been given six law
and
noah was given the seventh
since that completed the set
it's called the "Noahide laws"
it was firmly established by Moses
as is shown in the oral tradition
uh ... the oral tradition of the jews
i think it's found in tractate
sanhedrin
56b
of the
Babylonian Talmud
which is, at least, the written compilation of some of the
oral traditions of the jews
it's these seven laws that we're supposed to be keeping as non-jews
in order to at least
have a relationship with God
as shown in the bible anybody
who is obedient, anyone who wants to listen to God
and do what he says, anyone can have that relationship with Him
and by that means
by living the life
that he would have to us
we are maintaining a relationship, a good relationship with our God
what are these seven laws? what are
these laws that we're supposed to be keeping as
gentiles, non-jews,
people of the nation?
... the first one is idolatry
the first law is not to practice idolatry
the proper term is
"avodah zarah" which means strange worship
which is a lot broader than our english term "idolatry"
but we just say
"idolatry"
it, in essence, means
you're not supposed to serve
anything else, anything strange,
anything separate
from God
so the only person we should worship as god
is the God of
Noah
Adam and Moses
the God of Israel
that should be the only god that is worshipped as creator
as ruler of
the whole universe
as controlling the forces in the universe know
that is the one true God
so implicit in "no idolatry" "no strange worship"
is that we should know what proper worship is, who the true god is
but the essential prohibition
the essential no-no is "do not do idolatry"
...
another law is
don't commit blasphemy
blasphemy - that means that we're not supposed to insult or degrade God
and i think "degrade" is a good word
but i think it's mainly vocal: you're not supposed to verbally
curse God
blaspheme Him
it's got wide implications of ways what we can degrade God
in ... umm ...
in the way we speak
how we respect those who bring his teachings
....
a lot of these laws - these seven
laws i'm saying now -
they're mainly categories. they're not just it
one law
dot: "no idolatry" - that's it!
it's got many details underneath, just like blasphemy again, many implications
but we're not supposed to degrade the ...
um ... i'll say it again, the hebrews
the jews
say that the word "to profane"
is like the word "vacuum". it is the word "vacuum". it means
nothingness, void
...
so when a person profanes God
they're making him devoid of honour
they're saying ...
they're giving no respect, no honour
to the one true God
... so we should not profane God
we should not ...
blaspheme Him
next law is
no ***, we're not supposed to kill
again there's many ways to kill a person ... sorry, let me rephrase that: we're not supposed to ***
that's the proper word
because there is killing that is
justified: self-defense
in times of war
.... even capital punishment
but no illegal ***
no illegal killing
is permitted
in the Noahide code
Noahide laws
also
another law is "don't steal". they also say "no larceny"
you are not supposed to
impinge on somebody else's rights on their property
if that thing is theirs you treat it and respect it as theirs
if something's yours
you know, *David stutters* you treat that as your own
but don't treat somebody else's
property
as your own. Don't take it, don't grasp it. it's not yours, it's theirs. respect other people's
property rights
... so "no stealing"
that again has many implications
...
many implications
no *** immorality. that's another law. no *** immorality. that means
can't ...
can't commit adultery
can't go out having sex or even
leading toward *** relations with somebody else's wife
...
no homosexuality whether male or female
no sleeping with family members
again even though there's a nice broad title "no *** immorality"
there is
details underneath there that we should ...
learn and avoid
...
no eating the limb
of a living animal
that is expanded to "don't treat animals cruelly"
basically an animal is supposed to be fully dead
before you eat it
as i say, that again has
wider implications
and the last one is "no injustice"
...
we're not supposed to judge arbitrarily, we're supposed
to set up courts of justice
some people just have that as a positive command
to set up court of justice
to others it is just another negative one saying "no injustice in the world"
*stutters*
it doesn't start from the courts - of course, we're supposed to have courts of justice
and these are courts of justice that
help establish and govern
the Noahide laws
but even though it's from a court level
it starts from the home, teaching children right
and also other
places like that
but again, it has wide implications. these are the seven laws
no idolatry, not blasphemy, no ***, no stealing
no *** immorality
no eating the limb of a living animal, and no injustice, set up courts of justice
i'm not going to explain their sources
or their reasoning as yet
but at least i want to let people know these are the laws that gentiles should be keeping
if you want to know about them more fully
seek out a jewish rabbi who knows about the noahide laws, the seven laws of noah, and ask
there's nothing wrong with asking a jew
about
what their law says concerning us
...
'cause in essence, even though the law is theirs, even though they possess it, it has
implications for everybody so
if you want to know more accurately or more fully about them, seek out a jew. there's other places
on youtube like
bnainoach
or ...
there are some others, i don't know them all but check around
there's good stuff
so those are the seven laws. and i hope that's at least shown you another way of thinking. thanks for your time.
