You know as it becomes more common to travel our Nation's highways, and with the energy
problems we're having, we're going to talk about how to travel with perishable foods.
Hi I'm Captain Joe Bruni and what we are going to discuss is how to prepare for a road trip
with food. First of all, we would like to use two coolers for any road trip. One for
perishable food, one for non perishable food where they can be intermixed. First and foremost,
pack both coolers with a little bit of ice or gel packs prior to loading them with any
food. Transfer food directly from the freezer such as meat products that are frozen, like
chicken, seafood, red meats things along those lines into a cooler and then pack on top with
ice. Any void spaces, or empty spaces you can seal off or place perishable food items,
like peanut butter, soft drinks things along those lines in the empty void spaces in those
coolers. The cooler that would be opened more frequently will be the cooler where you want
to place most of your snacks and perishable foods that are going to be eaten while on
the road. And again using two coolers, packing both with ice prior to entering any of the
food products is the cost efficient and energy smart way to do things. I'm Captain Joe Bruni,
