>> SPEAKER: It's a really good introductory to fashion design as a design process and
it's a really good subject to be creative and have a lot of fun in. But the assessments
are fairly broad so you have a lot of scope to find your own creative outcomes in it.
It also engages with different areas of the fashion world that you might not come across
if you hadn't done this course or you hadn't been aware of before. One of the really good
things is that you do get that creative scope to design what you want, in a way, and to
explore different things. One of the assessments that we did was an under form where you got
to recreate a garment from already existing garments. So there was a whole sustainability
element to it and things like that which was really good to work with, especially as that's
a growing part of the industry these days. The most challenging things about this subject
would be knowing where to go for resources and things like that, knowing which stores
and shops and which certain fabric stores to go to definitely is a big that you're unsure
of, especially around Sydney and around this area. Understanding what was expected of you
out of university level I found difficult. Coming from high school, it's kind of difficult
to kind of gauge the level of what you are assessed on, as well. This subject does require
a lot of work, but then again it doesn't, as well. Because it's a creative subject,
it doesn't feel like work when you do it because it's sort of having that outlet to create
things. Advice I would give a student is to just trust yourself a lot and go with your
own creativity and your own guidance on that. I would say put a lot of work in and the result
will pay off. Immediately, this subject will help with broadening your scope of understanding
of what is involved in fashion design, especially the design process. So that's definitely going
to help later on with understanding your own design process at a professional level. Yeah,
so there's that for sure.
