Hi! My name is Dan and I’m here with Expert Village. We’re going to talk about why not
to use accelerants with a campfire. An accelerant will make your fire burn quicker and hotter,
but it’s also quite dangerous. This is purely for demonstration. Don’t try this at home.
That’s an example of one sort of accelerant. This happens to be an air sanitizer. Some
of the things you want to be careful of, that you might encounter out in the woods, is your
white gas from your fuel bottle. Some of the reasons that you want to be careful of accelerants
is that they might cause explosion if the bottle catches on fire. The flame could go
back into the bottle causing it to ignite. There is also a possibility of the wind changes
direction you can get the accelerant into your eyes. Typically, if you do get an accelerant
into your eye you want to rinse for 15-29 minutes with fresh clean water, which in the
woods is hard to come by. If you are using accelerants, you want to do so in a very controlled
environment and have plenty of water and other flame-retardants on hand in case of emergency.
As always, with burns in the woods, the best thing to do is evacuate. That’s a few of
the things you want to look out for with accelerants in the woods.
