Hi, I'm Minnesota Miles and this is the Science Teaching
and Student Services building opening this fall.
I think the new building is incredible.
It's very high-tech, it has a lot of open spaces
and natural light that really brings a positive energy
to the university.
A student can come into the building
and they can attend a class in a state-of-the-art classroom,
they also can check on opportunities
that they might want to do in terms of being involved
on campus or in the university community,
check their financial aid status, pay a bill,
and if they're a student veteran they can check
on their GI bill status.
In addition to being the go-to place for student services
on campus, the fourth floor consolidates career services
for the colleges of liberal arts, education
and human development, and design.
So what we're doing here is all of us working together
in one space to make sure to provide the services
that our students need but we can collaborate and do it
in an efficient way that uses this fantastic space.
The University of Minnesota is on the cutting edge
with having these state-of-the-art classrooms
and students services all in one location.
We are the leaders in this effort.
We're really able to share a lot of our common services.
The research library, the interview rooms,
those were things that were scattered in a bunch
of different places and now they're conveniently placed
in one great place for students.
This location happens to have the highest concentration
of pedestrian traffic on campus.
So I think that's really important.
The fact that it's so centrally located, to me,
sends a really powerful message that the types
of student services that are in this building are important
to the University of Minnesota and we're willing
to make a commitment to provide these services to our students.
I've already found a couple of students
who are already starting to discover the space
and I've been talking with them.
They've just been really excited with the view.
If I look out in front of me I see Washington Avenue Bridge,
if i look to my right I see downtown Minneapolis,
a fantastic view.
So once you settle your student account, register for classes
and and find an internship, you can relax in one
of the lounges scattered about the building and enjoy the view
of the Mississippi River.
