very strange story out a Florida Raw Story is reporting on this there's a
Florida man
who is suing the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office over a bionic
arrest back in December that the officer wasn't able to defend in court First
Coast News reported on this and Bobby wingate who is african-american
and many people believe that this is an issue in the story
so it was cited by an officer for walking down the wrong side of the road
during the stop and then punched in the face
when the officer pulled out his taser wingate called 911 to protect himself
he said do I really want to fight him wingate can be heard telling the
emergency dispatcher on the phone
I haven't done anything wrong wingate was then arrested he was charged with
resisting arrest without violence and walking down the wrong side of the road
and was brought to trial in court the officer testified he actually wasn't
even sure which side of the road wingate was on
which prompted the judge to dismiss the case wingate is now filed a civil
lawsuit against the department this is just absolutely bizarre Louis
and there's a lot of these anecdotal stories for example there's a story from
elsewhere in Florida where police started ticketing pedestrians for
walking across train tracks which kind of divide the town into two
on one side of the tracks is the traditionally mine but might majority
mostly minority I guess is what I'm saying mostly minority
poor part of town on the other side is the
mostly-white rich part of town and
a police have started fining people for crossing the tracks
its kind of this unwritten thing where he we know we kinda wanna keep people in
their place
is this potentially the same type of thing I mean what is walking down the
wrong side of the road what is that
that is that's nothing
this is just a story about a cop who wants to causing trouble
and I and pinks he can get away with it wingate attorney says that the conduct
outlined in the transcript
and the 911 call is not only breathtaking
its outrageous it's disgraceful this is one of those situations where we say
will hold on let's take a step back
maybe he started getting violent with the police officer but
even the trumped-up charges say resisting arrest
without violence and walking down the wrong side of the road
how does this keep happening and how does that keep happening in Florida it's
very very odd and I'm gonna be curious to see
if we actually have a successful civil suit
from mister wingate against the police this is actually kind of a big deal
because it really says a lot about what really took place there
so we're going to continue to follow that story
