We're here today with
leaders from the African-American media and community to talk about our
drive to coverage in the Get Covered Illinois effort.
So as a physician I have seen a number of patients come in
to me and have been reluctant to get certain procedures or certain screening
tests or certain other things addressed because of cost
or because of misinformation
or because of a lack of trust or a lack of faith. The affordable care act helps to address
all those things.
You have coverage for preventable care, wellness care, wellness services,
medications, a number of essential health benefits that you get automatically
when you're enrolled in Get Covered Illinois. I think that at this point
most people know what the Affordable Care Act is and now we're looking
to actually reach those people and make sure they know how to
engage and how to get enrolled.
Navigators are specially trained,
specially certified by both the federal government and the state of Illinois.
They can work with consumers one on one
to help them literally navigate through the enrollment process.
They can also pick up the telephone and
call our toll-free helpline seven days a week 8AM to 8PM
and receive all the assistance that they need,
answer questions, find out where Navigators are in their local communities,
and a wide variety of
other information is available
for consumers.
