Lancaster Calif cops are in the search for a wanted parolee
unfortunately they raided the home of the wrong couple
and started firing at their guns in fact they shot 15 rounds
and a man by the name of angel Mendez was struck 10 times and that resulted in
him losing his leg
his pregnant wife was also hit once and she fear that she might lose the baby
but thankfully
she did not she is healthy adelman Mendes is also healthy but as I
mentioned he lost his leg
now I a federal judge has awarded the couple four billion dollars as a result
of this excessive force
and this ridiculous police brutality so I'm glad they
at least get some degree justice which doesn't always happen these days
but this goes to our talk about police state
shoot first ask questions later me %um in old movies where they say
freeze put your hands up radio drug
or draw even drop the weapon drop the weapon right they
it's the wrong house didn't even ask the scope literally firing into a
yeah Mendes said that day like shot their way through the front door
and that you know he he does concede that there was a BB gun on his bed
look when life it looks like a rifle up and he said that like
he what he did not grab the rifle tisch likes you that the cops for the BB got
to shoot the cops just like one moving away push away so he could get up
but in the process doing that I guess the cops thought that he was gonna try
to shoot them in and they immediately started shooting at him
but its it's such a cute I mean it's a scary situation there for small the
wrong house
and imagine that the couple is asleep when this is happening
their sleep and the bust through the door and you're like this oh really
what's going on except
why couldn't you picked up again yeah yet no I mean if you have no idea was
coming to your house isn't like to it don't gun owners always say
out first thing I get to do if you can have your coming to my house
how he does another cop see if they could be crackheads whatever right
so E but that's why we use assay
drop your weapon right we used to have a moment
and yes is that moment in in imperil the cops
and little bit you know just have certain percentage
I think it does right I guess we're cups because you
you we paid to take that risk I don't take it lightly
well you know it was you could be got a long time no see we're not only paying
them to take that risk
we're paying them to be trained better
then a pedestrian or some regular Joe
or whatever who has a job there's a judgment one must make
when you're face to face with someone with a BB gun
do I shoot 10 times and blow this person away
order way engage them and say hey dropped the weapon
put your hands up get on the floor or whatever that we've seen in movies but
we expect more this week when it comes down to the sorta blurred lines with
like there's a weapon in there there's not
it's like their train they're supposed to have a higher degree of training
yeah that's the thing that expert right they should that the right now and we
and we give them a gun and permission to use it yeah you know and and with that
comes an enormous degree responsibility and expectation we have a beer maybe
I also you know and I'm I'd love to have a serious cuz I say this I am NOT
knowing and not having gone through police training
but I've read enough and I've read a lot of books about cops written by
police reporters written by cops people were sympathetic to police as I am
like you're never supposed to shoot on world
right I don't quite get why
right like obviously I don't know why know I know what
because the course then they could still have their weapon but in some
circumstances the again it's about
it goes to what you said like also maybe there's a little more risk
but again like it ends up being the thing I should guide
ten times like get a BB gun and shot
tend to be because he was still moving and he was probably still trying
he was in a state that probably absolute shock
moving his body all over the place just as
someone would with 10 cops on them beating
Jurrjens you would be freaking out for this is your diet
you're done you're gonna do everything you can to fight back
and that's often then misidentified mistaken for
fighting back for being aggressive that's where the training comes in
you're supposed to know the difference and the situation and they wanted to say
one more thing about trainee
I that's what I'm worried about that we're not really training them
that much anymore that to say hey you know what
put the weapon down and we're not training them hey you got the awesome
responsibility
now I'm being unfair I'm sure that many other cops cross country are being
trained that way
but it seems to me that were tilting the scales
on the side of could go ahead and shoot first don't take any risks
it because we're all constantly doing overwhelming force a
and we've come to believe that that's the right thing to do
yeah when it is it
