I've always loved nature and our wonderful native plants
as Commander Ben - The Invasive Hunter - I help to educate kids to educate kids
of all ages about invasive species and the problems that they cause
I've given many talks to both kids and adults
and I have a popular science blog where I make videos about invasive species
one of those being Native Plant Avengers which was featured in Lights. Camera. Help.
focus on Good
Film Festival I created the invasive hunter Academy to educate kids of all
ages
especially young naturalists about invasive species
my Academy debut during the National Invasive Species Awareness week
at the US Botanic Gardens in Washington DC.
The Invasive Hunter Academy helps kids learn about invasive species
in a fun and interactive way through multi-sensory activities
including: (1) Visual identification
of native and invasive plants. It's really fun to play the flash card game with the
kids in this. I always really enjoy that.
(2) Physical action moves
to take down those invasives. Now, this is the best and the kids get so excited
during this and I get so excited.
(3) Creating and drawing
and constructing their battles with invasive species
diorama, and of course last, but not least, my absolute favorite--stickers!
Who doesn't love stickers? I know I love stickers so much!
I brought my Invasive hunter Academy to Nature Nights
at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas.
The kids had a lot of fun learning about our native Texas
plants and about how to identify and battle invasive species.
Thank you, Action for Nature, for your International Young
Eco-Hero award. I'll put it to great use to help educate kids of all ages
about invasive species
