Hello, Boys and Girls
This is Mrs. Goldenberg, and I'd like to give you a quick overview of our online classroom.
When you first log into the portal and click on our class, this is the first page you'll see.
You'll notice a picture of our school, and announcements for that week's homework.
Over here on the right, you'll see important links that we use frequently in our classroom.
Remember, the Accelerated Reader link only works from school.
If you try to click on this link from home, you won't be able to do anything.
On the left, you'll see a list of the pages that are available online.
Each one that has a plus actually has more pages within it.
To see, you just click on it and you'll see a list of the pages within it.
Under Language Arts, we have a grammar practice page, a page about our Grizzly Bear Family Book story, and a page about our "Fighting Ground" novel.
This is all found underneath the pages tab.
The next tab is called the calendar.
It has a calendar with events on it, and assignments that you can turn in online. I encourage you to check it frequently.
The next tab is perhaps the most important one.
It's called the connect tab, and it has many subtitles underneath it.
The first one is the announcements tab.
If you miss an announcement on the front page, you can go to connect- announcements to read them.
You can read all of the announcements we've had for the year, just in case you missed one.
The next tab is called discussions.
It is a shortcut to get to the discussion sessions that we have in our class.
It is sometimes faster to go to connect-discussions rather than going to the actual page that they are found on, so I hope you'll remember this shortcut.
Next, we have the dropbox.
A dropbox is a place that you can hand in assignments that you have created in other programs such as Notebook or Word.
We'll talk more about this later.
Next, we have our inbox.
Inbox is your classroom email. You can send email to anyone inside the class, but you cannot send or receive email from people outside of our class.
You'll see here that Bob Student has a few emails from his friends.
To read them, he just needs to click on the bold words. He can either reply or write a new email that way.
The next tab is called polls.
These are often just fun questions to find out your opinions and find out fun facts about our friends.
The last tab here is called wikiprojects.
They're kind of like an online, interactive web site that you can create inside of Haiku.
We will be doing many projects using wikiprojects.
And we'll talk about that more later on.
The final tab is called the assess tab.
Under the assess tab, you will find assignments. This is a list of the assignments and when they are due.
It's also another way to get to the dropbox for a certain assignment.
Next, we have assessments.
These are online tests and quizzes that you will need to finish every once in a while.
Finally, we have grades.
We do not use this portion of Haiku, so there isn't going to be anything for you to see.
If you would like to check your grades, you can go online to the family portal and check them there.
Well, that was a quick look at our classroom online.
I hope you enjoyed it, and as always, go ahead and email me if you have any questions.
I'll see you in school!
