One of the funniest moments as a park ranger, well I've had a few that are probably laughable
and some of them have to be with being out on the water. I was at Lake Powell one time
and we were on a personal watercraft on patrol and I had stopped somebody and asked them
to go to shore so I could talk with them and get off the personal watercraft so we got
to share and what I didn't realize was as I got to shore behind the personal watercraft
was a drop off. It wasn't just sand and something I could step on to. I typically get off my
personal watercraft backing up and getting off the back and then walking up to shore
and talking with them and as I was getting off, the person who I was with was up on shore
waiting for me and I scooted off the back of my four wheeler and just went completely
under water. It was kind of funny. You know you get out and what do you say when you do
something like that? You just get off completely wet, everything on me was wet. Fortunately
it was a hot day so it kind of felt good but that was kind of a funny moment. The other
one I was up at one of our parks called Rock Port State Park and that is a boating park
with a lake and again another personal watercraft and it was one that I wasn't used to riding,
it was a different manufacturer and I hadn't ridden it that often so I wasn't that familiar
with it. So as I stopped two young ladies, they were quite attractive young ladies and
they were talking to me and I was informing them of something they had done wrong and
I stood up on the personal watercraft and as soon as I did that I fell right off right
into the water. And so what do you say when you fall in the water, again I ruined my radio
and I had to spend a lot of money to get that back working and I've made a fool of myself
in front of these two attractive ladies and fortunately they were good sports and I obviously
waved and said good-bye I'm fine and I meant to do that or something goofy like that you
know. So those are some of the funnier times that I've had in my career and I look back
with a smile on those times and hopefully I won't do those again.
