To cast on, first you make a slip knot,
then you stick it on your left hand.
There, it's sitting on your wrist,
step 1. Step 2,
put your right hand up,
into the slipknot, that first stitch on your
left hand, and you grab
the bundle of yarn, the working yarn, in your right hand
and pull it through, and then you stick that
new stitch on your left arm. Now you have two stitches, one, two.
Then you just keep repeating this,
putting your right hand up into the first stitch on your
left arm grabbing the bundle of yarn, overhand,
pulling it through, sticking it on and you can just keep repeating this
step for as many stitches as you want.
This determines the width of your scarf.
There are five stitches right now,
on my left hand, and that is your cast on row.
So, for row one, you have the same motions as you do for casting on.
You put your right hand up into the first stitch,
grab the working yarn, overhand style,
pull it through, only this time gonna slip it on to your right wrist
and let the old stitch fall of you left.
And you're going to repeat this for every stitch
in the row. Grab the yarn pull it through, put on your right wrist.
Grab the yarn, pull it through through, put it on your right wrist.
So for row 2, it's going to be a little different than row 1, your stitches are
actually kinda
backwards oriented, if you're used to knitting you'll kinda
recognize the stitches look a little odd on your right arm here.
So, with your left hand you want to go into the back
of the stitch and grab the yarn
underhand style. It looks really awkward, especially for your first
stitch, but you'll get the hang of it.
Basically these two rows, one of them is going to be kind of awkward
this is the least totally awkward one.
Your going to use right hand to help you left and grab the
working on underhand if you need to, that's fine. Grab the yarn
underhand, with your left hand,
pull it through, slip it onto your left wrist.
Grab the yarn,
underhand, slip it through. You just wanna keep repeating these rows, 1 and 2,
right and left, for as long as you want your scarf
or until you're almost out of yarn.
As you can see, you get a lot of length going on really quickly.
For the purposes of this video you have to end with a row 2.
So all the stitches will be loaded onto your left arm,
ready to go. So to bind off, we're going to use a knit two together bind off because it's nice and
flexible.
So what you do is the same as row 1,
the same motion, only you're going through two stitches, not one.
Go through two stitches on your left arm,
grab the an overhand, pull it through
and this time your gonna stick it back on to your left wrist,
tightened up a little bit, don't cut off your circulation, that's important,
and your just going to repeat this motion. go through the first two stitches
grab a loop pull it through
put it back in your left arm. I keep repeating this
until only one stitch remains.
Grab the yarn one more time,
just to pull it through and fasten it off. Then you can kind of cut
this working yarn, pull it through and you're done!
