I am from the commune Munteni, Galati county. I am 29 years old, and I have this occupation, I make spirits brewing cauldrons, basins, buckets.
All made with my hands, all from head to tail. I can craft anything, from the smallest to the largest object. I make buckets, I make wash basins, I make incense burners,
I make pans with handles for steaks, I make 10 kilograms pans with their lids, for broth, basins for washing machines.
18 kilograms basins, I can show, I have gathered them on purpose, and in one day I start and make them all.
I make buckets for milking, for people to milk their sheep. I make large cauldrons, of 100 kilograms, for fermenting the whey and making cheese.
I make cups for milking, so that when the sheep is milked the milk does not fall straight to the bucket, but first falls through this cup and then in the bucket.
It is guaranteed, from our ancestors, our objects have always been good and enduring and people can see.
Recently, I have been nearby, in the home region of my parents, some 10 kilometres from Barlad, and there is a woman who knew me from when I was smaller,
I was 15 or so, and I made some water buckets and some basins for her. The woman, after 15 years, did not recognize me, she started to grow old.
Yesterday I went to take, to buy something from her, and she asked: “Who are you? Are you Ciurdita?”
I said: “No, I am not Ciurdita, I am Cezarica.” “Oh, Cezarica, it is you, who made that bucket for me.”
“It is me, who also made the basin and the spirits cauldron.” And now, that she recognized me, she said, well, I will give him a bottle of wine.
She recognized me, and she remembered me, she said, “I will give you a bottle of wine, as you are a good boy, and hard working, and I know I have got something good from you.”
Us, this is our profession. During winters we settle at home, during summers we go around like the ants, we gather all that we can, foods, we do what we can do.
When autumn comes, we gather what we need for our homes. And this is what we do. We do not have another profession.
Only cauldron making. Cauldrons, basins, this is what we make. We do not have another occupation, as we don’t know any other.
We have been born with this, and this we’ll do as long as the world will last.
