Did you know that 435,000 American women have heart attacks annually?
Did you know that the number of women who die each year from heart attacks is nearly
6 times that of women who die from breast cancer each year?
I am Dr. Joy Cotton, a cardiologist at Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute.
My colleagues and I are very proud to recognize and support the American Heart Association’s
“Go Red for Women” campaign and National Heart Month in February because we want to
improve these statistics.
It is important for all of us, men and women alike, to know our own health numbers – our
weight, blood pressure and cholesterol.
Keeping these numbers in check is the best way you can help control your risk of developing
heart disease.
If you don’t know your numbers, talk with your doctor today.
Ask your friends and family if they know their numbers.
Knowing these numbers is the first step in improving the statistics.
