Hi, my name is Jessica and on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to be teaching you how to
make a hemp necklace. Okay, so I'm going to give you some tips on when you're working
on your necklace just to make it a better necklace. Say you've put your, your hemp down.
Maybe you've got to go do something and you come back to it and you're doing this flat
stitch. So you need to know which side you started on or which side you left off on and
which, which side you need to start stitching on again. The best way, first, is the knot
that you tied at the beginning it's going to be pointing towards you. So that's going,
going to be the front. You can see the back is a lot flatter, but the front kind of sticks
out towards you. So you're going to put it that way. So you're going to identify the
middle strings and that's going to be really easy. They are the shortest and then you're
going to have to decide which side is the side that you left off on. Now you can see
that this string on the right is coming towards you and the string on the left is going back.
And the string that's going back is the one that you left off on, and that's the way it's
always going to be. So, if I'm making this flat stitch on this medium hemp, I'm going
to, my next stitch is going to be on this one on the right, because the last side I
did was on the left. And you can tell because the string is going back. So you're going
to go ahead and just, just start over and that's the good thing about these necklaces,
is that you don't need to sit there and do it all at once. It's, you can always come
back to it and usually, it, depending on how often you work on it, it really doesn't take
that long to make a basic hemp necklace. I'd say maybe a couple of hours. Maybe two or
three hours, and that's if you're working on it straight. Usually, I don't do them all
at once and it takes me a couple of days, but, if you're, if you've got nothing to do
maybe you're going on a plane ride or something you can just do it all at once, and it, you'll
have it done couple of hours. Another tip that I'd like to give you guys is that you
want to make sure that you pull your hemp as tight as possible. And that's going to
really make your necklace really uniform. If it's not tight it's going to, you know,
you're going to have one big stitch right here in the middle and one really tiny one
and it's going to look really sloppy and, and messy. Now sometimes this is, you know,
the hemp is going to be not uniform itself. So you can see this part of the string right
here is really thick compared to this part off the string. So there's nothing you can
do about that and it kind of adds a little bit of character, character to the hemp. But
by pulling it tight you're going to kind of reduce those differences in the stitches.
So you want to just make sure that you do pull it as tight as possible. Don't hurt your
fingers or anything, but as strong as you can. That will really make your necklace look
a lot better.
