Hello, my name is Brenda Palmigiano. I am a deaf trucker.
I want to share with you about my frustration of audism, because of my job hunt for deaf truck driver employment everywhere.
And, the requirements that focus on ear and mouth that is too prevalent for me. This leads me to face a lot of frustration.
One day, in back of my mind the word audism bothered my thoughts.
I began to wonder if it is in the current dictionary.
If you do not mind, I would like to go ahead and discuss the dictionary.
This is Webster’s Dictionary.
This is the well known American's best selling dictionary.
This was published in 2011. And, we will check and see if the word audism inside the book.
The word audisim is not there. And, it was published in 2011. Very Interesting.
Here is another dictionary.
This is Oxford English dictionary.
Let’s see if it has the word audism and it was also a 2011 published dictionary.
The word audism is not there. Umm… 2011. Very interesting. Very interesting (258).
This is the American Heritage Dictionary.
Let’s see if the word audism is in this book.
Yes, it has the word audism in the 2011 edition. Can you image?
I don’t know if the dictionary’s definition will satisfy you.
It says, “Discrimination or Prejudice against people based on the fact that their ability to hear is impaired or absent.”
I find it very sarcastically that it does not say anything about speech which is very interesting.
Now I would like to throw out to all of you to see what you can do about those dictionaries.
