So you're interested in finding out about all those antique dishes and what they're
worth. I'm Blake Kennedy and I'm a certified appraiser and I'm here today at Patty and
Friends Antique Mall in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Dishes can range in prices quite
a bit because they're making dishes now and you want to know how much the antique ones
are worth. Dishes are kind of like the stock market on individual pieces. There's a place
called the Replacements in Greensboro, North Carolina that I do a lot of phone calling
to to find out exactly how much plates are going for. You also might want to check out
some of your local suppliers in your particular area in the bigger cities, they'll have smaller
shops that are interested in buying them also. So if they have a lot of these dishes on the
shelf, then the prices come down on it. But if they - the prices come down on those particular
plates, when finding out the value. If they don't have many on their shelves then the
price goes up. First of all you want to make sure that you take a look at the plate and
turn it over and find out exactly what type of plate that you have. And then most plates
will be labeled on the bottom, this one is a Wedgewood bone china made in England and
some of them are even going to tell you the particular pattern because that's what they're
going to ask you for is who makes it and what particular pattern it is. You can also send
a digital photograph of it if you're not quite sure what the pattern is on that plate. The
next thing they want to do is they want to ask you if there's - check the condition out
if there are any knife marks in it, the plates have been used. Some plates, even though they're
antiques have been put away and boxed up and never even been used. But some are heavily
used and they want to know the condition of those particular dishes if they've been used
throughout the years, which is fine, especially if you're going to end up keeping them and
using them over and over. But if you're looking to sell them, the condition is everything
when it comes to finding out the value of it. If you're looking the value to have it
insured, then you can appraise them a little bit higher for insurance reasons 'cause you
have to go out and find those particular dishes to match up with the set that you already
have. But look on the internet also if you're trying to figure out the value on dishes and
try and find the exact price that they're selling for on the internet. Good luck looking
for those dishes. My name is Blake Kennedy.
