Hello and welcome to Todd's kitchen. Back in the old days calzones was originally developed
as a way to use last nights leftovers to turn into a delicious meal today
There are so many variations of it today its unbelievable, so join me today
as i make my version of a chicken calzone.
Into a fry pan on a medium to high heat pour in some olive oil
Then about a tablespoon minced garlic
or about three garlic cloves
Then add our minced chicken meat
What we want to do is keep breaking this up
and just move it around breaking it up
and do this for three to four minutes just until the chicken is cooked all the way through
Now that the chicken is cooked i have also drained the liquid out
To that add a table spoon of dried basil
Then six roughly chopped mushrooms
and for the sauce to make life easier im going to use three quarters of a cup of store brought pizza sauce
Well now you're thinking
why the store brought pizza sauce
you can choose any flavour that you like but it works out well.
So mix it all in
Now that the sauce is mixed through, leave it on the heat for about three minutes
just to give the mushrooms a chance to soften up and after those three minutes take this of the heat.
It would not be a calzone without our pizza dough
now i made pizza dough a couple of days ago
Now if you missed that video i'll leave a link at the end of this video and i'll also
leave a link in the description. But as i said in that video i always recommend
you keep some on hand as it freezers pretty well.
so this is a quarter of that mixture that i made
So using a rolling pin dusted with flour
just roll this out
until it is nice and thin
you want about a quarter of a centimetre
once we have the desired thickness
put on some of our chicken mixture
now this recipe will make four calzones
So the pizza dough that was made up and divided into four
will be enough
for the amount of chicken i have cooked for this recipe.
Now sprinkle on some
shredded cheese, it would not be a calzone without cheese
Now it is a simple matter of folding the dough
just stretch it
just like so
i want you to pinch it down
just so we have a nice seal
Now i have placed it onto a greased baking tray
now place this into a pre heated oven at two hundred twenty celsius for twelve minutes
until golden brown
I have just taken this out of the oven and as you can see it was just starting to brown up
so you don't want over do it, but
lets cut into this and see how it came out
So i have let it cool a little. Now to give it a try.
okay that wasn't so cool
but
i'll tell you what
this really does taste good
that taste really good
That chicken mixed with the cheese the pizza sauce and the basil
with all honesty
This taste simple delicious
Now you don't have to use just chicken, you can pretty much fill them with anything.
that was the original idea behind this recipe
pretty much any lefts over from the night before you can stick in one of these.
