Hello and thanks for watching this video from Tutorial Techie. Today I am going to show
you how to install Windows Server 2008 to a Oracle VM VirtualBox. This is a pretty easy
process, and it should only take a couple of minutes. I am going to open VirtualBox
and I am going to create a new Virtual Machine. I am going to go ahead and call this Virtual
Machine Windows Server 2008, and under the version I am going to select Windows Server
2008 (64 bit). Because the ISO I am using is a 64-bit ISO, I am going to choice 64-bit,
however if the ISO you downloaded is 32-bit, then you should choose Windows 2008. Next,
I need to decide how much memory I need to give my Virtual Machine. Because this is a
server I am going to go ahead and give it 4 GB of memory. Finally, I need to create
a virtual hard drive. All of the default settings are good, so I am just going to use the defaults
and hit create. Now I am going to launch my Virtual Machine for the first time. Once I
do this I will need to select a startup disk. The startup disk needs to be either an ISO
file that you have downloaded from the internet, or a DVD or CD ROM that is in your computer.
I have included a link where you can find the ISO file to download Windows Server 2008
from the Microsoft website. I downloaded the ISO to my desktop so I am going to select
it and go ahead and open it. Now I can click start and the VirtualBox will boot from the
ISO file that I selected. Windows will now load the required files and I can begin the
installation process. If you are running Oracle VirtualBox you might notice a dialog that
appears at the top that says "The Virtual Machine reports that the the Guest OS supports
mouse pointer integration". Feel free to close this dialog box. Now we can begin the installation
process by clicking Next and then Install Now. You will be required to enter in a CD
key later, after the installation has been completed. Select the OS that you have the
correct key for. In my case, I need to select Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Full Installation.
I am going to continue the installation process by clicking next, agreeing to the terms of
service, and clicking next again. I would like to install this Virtual Machine to a
blank virtual hard disk, so I need to click Custom (Advanced) rather then Upgrade. Once
I do this, I can select 0 which includes all of the unallocated space of this blank virtual
hard disk. The installation process will now copy all of the Windows files expand them
and install the features. This will take approximately. five to ten minutes. Will go ahead a speed
up my video now, so we don't have to wait. Windows has now finished copying and installing
all of the required files. It needs to restart one more time in order to finish this installation
process. Booting Windows Server 2008 for the first time is often a lengthy process, so
just be patient. I will now be required to change the Windows Server 2008 password for
the first time. Make sure that you choose a strong password using upper case, lower
case, numbers and symbols. Once you have changed your password, Windows will prepare your desktop
and launch Windows Server 2008 for the first time. Now that my virtual machine has launched
properly for the first time, I am going to go ahead and shut it down. In order to do
this I click on Start, and I select Shut Down. In order to properly shut down a server, you
need to select an option, to tell the computer why you are doing this. This is going to be
for Hardware Maintenance, so I am select that and click OK to shutdown the machine. Well
that's going to do it for this tutorial, hopefully you have found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
