Hi! This is D.J. Banovitz, Colorado Personal Injury and
Accident Trial Lawyer, practicing in Denver, Colorado.
And today's video tip are the top three bicycling safety tips
for kids. First, wear a helmet. Folks, make sure your kids
are always wearing a helmet.
Some of the worst injuries lawyers see
involve head injuries to small kids. So, make sure your kids
are always wearing a helmet, even if they're riding out front
of the house - let alone out on the streets. It's just critical
to have a helmet on. Second: your kids need to be visible to
the cars out there.
So, make sure your kids' bicycles have
reflectors on them, have flags attached to them, or some bright
colors - make sure your kids are visible. And something that's
most overlooked, and as an accident lawyer I see all too
frequently, are kids involved in accidents where they were riding
bikes that don't fit them. Folks, don't buy a bicycle for
your kids, for them to grow into. Just as you wouldn't drive
your car without the ability to reach the brake pedal, or the
ability to steer. If you buy a bicycle that's too big for your
kid, they're not going to be able to stop and steer when
they're confronted with danger. Why am I telling you this?
Because as I cyclist, bike safety is paramount. If you're
watching this, perhaps one of your children has been involved
in a bicycle accident, and I handle these types of cases.
