Deer have been a really big problem for me and my gardens at Lake Austin spa
and I found repellents that have really worked for me, but with
ingredients like rotten egg and garlic, they
repel me a little bit too. After I spray some of those deer repellents
I don't really wanna spend much time in the garden and also
often get a little bit of the spray on me when I spray so I feel like I have to
jump in the showers after spraying these
repellents, but I found a new line of environmentally friendly repellents from
the "imustgarden" company
Marilyn *** of Durham North Carolina came up with the line
of deer repellent products that actually smell good.
There's a mint scented one that actually has seaweed in it so you're feeding your
plants as you
repel deer. A spice blend has a cinnamon scent that smells really wonderful.
You'll spray every two weeks, generally. The first time you spray,
you really wanna make sure that you coat all surfaces of the plants
get the underside of the leaves and cover them really well and then as new growth appears,
just hit the new growth and the sprays actually last for a long time
unless we get a really heavy rain.
You can even wait between sprays a hundred days or so if the plants are
dormant and not really
growing much. I use my rose blooms as markers. When I have blooms on the roses
I know that the deer are being repelled
and as soon as I start to see nibbling on those plants, then I know it's time to reapply.
These products are safe for children, for pets, for plants and even for the
wildlife. It just makes the plants taste bad
to the animals. They have essential oils in the products that you might even have
in your kitchen. Now squirrels are another big issue for me, they
dig up plantings, they'll take bulbs out of the beds
one after another, take one bite, toss it aside
dig up another. Container plant gardens are often destroyed by squirrels digging,
burying pecans, things like that. I have a friend who has really struggled with
container gardens, but she's growing things
successfully now with the squirrel repellent spray.
You can actually spray your bulbs with the squirrel repellent before you plant
and the squirrels will leave them alone, that's actually worked for me so far this year.
Sometimes squirrels will go after your outdoor furniture and pots and cushions
trying to go after nesting materials, and they will
really reek havoc on your outdoor cushions
so you can offer them a basket of nest materials but there's also
this spray that you can use. Now this imustgarden company makes formulas for
armadillos and moles and voles, for snakes, for ants, for mosquitoes
rabbits, dogs, and cats.
They have granular sprays as well as concentrates and ready to use.
Some of them come in really great pump sprays. They're sold in nurseries and
hardware stores and natural food stores
but only independently loan owned
local stores. There's no big box stores that sell these.
Go the imustgarden website put in your zip code to find a store near you
or you can order by phone or online. imustgarden products are really a great
addition to your garden arsenal.
