Life is full of experiences
and Evernote helps you capture, manage and remember them all.
Today I would like to introduce you to some useful
features available to you in the Evernote application
I will show you how to create a notebook, create your first note, create your first list
and then learn how easy it is to share all your creations with Evernote
This is the main screen of the Evernote application
and it is the first thing you will see when you log in for the first time
If you look up at the top of your screen, you will notice your account information
displayed in the center of the menu bar
Now focus your attention on the upper left
corner of the screen and you will see the account tab
This tab is highlighted and houses the following items for your use.
Notebooks, tags, and saved searches
Let’s start with creating a notebook.
First click on the triangular shaped icon located to the left of the word notebook
This will reveal the current notebooks available for your use.
Now located to the right of the word Evernote
on the main menu bar, at the top left corner of your screen, is the word “file”
Click on the word “file” to reveal the drop-down menu provided.
Scroll down to the third item listed, in the drop-down menu
That say’s, “New Notebook”
and then click to open this option.
The resulting window that now appears
is approximately in the middle of your screen
which allows you to give your notebook a title as well as decide
whether or not you would like this to be your default notebook
where all notes are initially directed
You are then asked to determine what type of notebook you are creating
A localized notebook is one where you will store items
that you would not want shared or sent to other’s via the Internet
Sensitive information should be kept private and localized on your computer.
A synchronized notebook allows for you to add contents from a selection
of devices, such as an iPhone, iPad, or computer.
You are then able to sync the contents of your notebook through the Evernote
application, allowing you to access this notebook
and all of it’s contents on several devices.
You’ll notice here that the note that reads “you can not change notebook type
one a notebook has been created”
If you chose the wrong option, simply delete the notebook and begin again
to create a new notebook that meets your criteria
For today’s purpose we’ll choose the the synchronized option
Located at the bottom right of this window are two icons
“Cancel” and “Create,” click on the “Create” icon,
located to the right of the “Cancel” icon, on the bottom left corner of your screen.
You will now see this newly created Notebook listed
when you open up the notebooks tab window
located in the upper left corner of the main Evernote window
Well we now have a newly created notebook that needs a note to go with it
Located at the top of the Evernote menu bar
is an icon of a plus sign (+) attached to the bottom corner of a piece of paper
Click on this icon to create a new note
After a new note appears on your screen
you will see the words “Untitled Note” highlighted in blue
Let’s name our first note “Grocery List”
then press return, a format menu bar
located the title “Grocery List” appears
Select the icon that has a check mark placed inside a square
located in the center right of your screen
Clicking on this icon will create a check off box for your new list.
Let’s put some items on our list, eggs
press return, apples, press return again
and milk. You can see how we have now created
a check-off list. Let’s share our list with others.
Go to the top menu bar and select “Note” from the menu
clicking on this icon will reveal the drop-down menu
Choose the Share option on the list
and click this option. A new window to the right
reveals several ways by which you can share your note. Including
emailing, posting to a facebook or a twitter account or
coping it to a clip board for sharing elsewhere.
This concludes our introduction to Evernote.
I hope you are beginning to see the many ways you can benefit from the features
included in this innovative application.
