So now I'm going to teach you how to sew on a button that's crisscross. It's four holes
and it crisscrosses. This is the button that I found and it was inside the garment on one
of the seams. I just took it off. And I wanted to make sure that it looks just like this
button. They're all sewn crisscross and this button's been gone for a while, and I can
see the hole still a little bit, but I still want to make sure that's exactly where I want
that button, so I'm just going to kind of lay these guys all next to each other. I can
see, yeah that's lined up right about the same and then if I put the button holes right
on top I'm still going to open it up and put a little mark cause I just want to make sure
I put it in the right spot. I don't want my button to be crooked. I'm just going to go
like that, right through the buttonhole with my little chalk. It's just a little bit off
so I'm glad I did a mark there so I know that's really where I want that button, right there.
So now that we have the button, we know where we want it, we're going to have to thread
a needle. And these are the two colors of blue that I have and I put them both up against
the fabric and neither one are an exact match, but I'm just going to go for the one that
I think is the best match. And I think this one might be the best match. It might be a
little bit lighter, but it's a little bit better than this thread so I'm just going
to thread my needle. I'm going to get just about three feet of thread then we'll give
that a snip. And what you want to do is get your needle and lick the end of your thread
and that just helps the thread go through the needle way easier. There you go just slip
it through and you hold the needle, go down here and grab the bottom of your thread. Now
that we have the two pieces of thread at the bottom evenly, we're going to make a square
knot. And I just like to use two fingers, push it through, just like tying a knot in
a rope and if you don't know how to do this, you can just practice on something a lot bigger.
I'm going to make a second one and it usually just ends up right there on that knot. So
it worked this time. I'm going to snip this extra thread off. I'm going to leave about
a quarter of an inch. There we go. We don't want to leave that knot coming undone when
we're trying to sew the button on. So now that we have our thread and our needle and
our button, in the next clip I'm going to show you how to sew on this button, crisscross
like this and how to finish it off on the back.
