Welcome to the Jewish Task Force. My name is Chaim Ben Pesach.
This program is dedicated to elevating the soul of Melech Harold.
Is it possible to quit smoking? Clearly it is.
Millions of cigarette addicts have quit.
You certainly know many people who quit.
I can give you the example of my father, for example--my father of blessed memory.
Many years he would smoke 60-80 cigarettes every day. 60-80 cigarettes every day!
All the time he wanted cigarettes, for many years.
But after he saw on the news that it endangers your health, he decided to quit, and he quit.
He didn't smoke again for more than 30 years until he died.
Over 30 years he did not touch a cigarette.
And he didn't want it. He didn't even want it at all.
There are millions of similar cases.
So if millions of people quit smoking, you too can quit smoking.
Of course it's not easy, it's really an addiction.
But it's possible to do it. It's hard, but it's possible to do it.
Millions of people have already done it. You too can do it.
If you have the will, you can do it.
Is it worthwhile to quit smoking? What a question! What a question!
Almost everyone who smokes shortens their life, G-d save us.
We know that every year many people die from cancer because of smoking.
We know that even more people die from heart attacks because of smoking
because smoking also causes heart diseases.
There are so many diseases that are caused by smoking.
It really destroys and attacks the whole body.
It's really like putting--not "like", it IS putting death into the body, poison inside the body.
So it is truly worthwhile to quit.
And there are other reasons to quit.
It is very expensive. What a waste of money! It's really very expensive--cigarettes.
And it stinks! There is a disgusting stink from cigarettes.
The overwhelming majority of the people in this generation don't smoke.
When I was a child, most of the people still smoked.
Praise G-d, I never smoked.
But when I was a child, most of the people smoked.
In this generation, the overwhelming majority don't smoke.
So, I don't know exactly what the data is.
But I think that it's between 70-80% of the Jews don't smoke, and between 20-30% do smoke.
So the vast majority doesn't smoke.
And believe me, to that vast majority that doesn't smoke,
the stink of the cigarettes is really disgusting. Disgusting!
So you don't want a stink, you don't want to waste money, you don't want to die.
And also there is another thing, a secondary thing in my opinion.
But I will try to use every tool, every weapon in order to convince you to do this already.
You will also age much faster if you smoke. Yes.
A lot of research shows that cigarettes cause fast aging.
If you don't want wrinkles, if you don't want white hair,
if you don't want to age much faster, don't smoke.
And I know what I'm talking about on the subject of aging because here I'm 55 years old.
If you want to be good-looking even when you are adults, it's not worthwhile to smoke.
Because you won't be good looking.
So there are a million reasons why it's not worthwhile to smoke.
The main reason, of course, is health. Because we want to live.
By the way, I am only appealing to Jews in this video.
If there are Arabs who see this video--don't pay attention to anything that I said.
It is worthwhile for you. If you are Arabs, it is worthwhile for you to smoke.
If I were Prime Minister of Israel, I would give you cigarettes for free.
I would give you drugs for free if I were Prime Minister of Israel.
Because I'm a humanitarian.
So if you are Arabs, smoking is cool.
But if you are Jews, it's forbidden to do it, G-d forbid. It's FORBIDDEN to do it.
So how to quit?
There are many methods.
I believe in the method of one day (at a time) to quit.
That means, tell yourselves "Just today I don't intend to smoke. Just today."
Because you can live without it during a day.
If not, then don't smoke for an hour.
And after that for two hours, and after that for three hours.
But say "I don't want to smoke, I won't take a cigarette in the next hour."
And after that, in the next 12 hours. And after that, in this day I won't take cigarettes.
I don't know what I'll do tomorrow. Tomorrow I don't know.
But today I won't smoke.
And if you can live without it one day, that's truly a big victory.
You will want it very much.
But at the end of the day, when there is a new day, when tomorrow comes,
you can say "Also today I don't intend to smoke."
"I don't know what will happen after that, but one day I don't want to smoke."
So one day you will do it, and another day you will do it, and another day.
So that will be your objective--to finish the day without a cigarette.
If you can do this, without a cigarette at all, day after day after day,
you will get used to it and you will quit.
Many people do it that way.
That's just one method. There are many methods.
But it is TRULY worthwhile to quit, and to live so that we can be healthy.
It's also worthwhile to eat only healthy food. It's also worthwhile to exercise.
It is worthwhile to be healthy--healthy Jews, blessed Jews.
Because we love all the people of Israel, and we are responsible for all the people of Israel.
So what you do does matter to us.
And we want to help you to quit.
