the observatory. The National Research Council snow kit. They came...All these instruments
came in this wooden box. Neatly packed with weigh scale...taking the RAM profile.
Was it Rogers Pass that got NRC interested in snow or was there a pre-existing?...
No it was before sort of...NRC became interested, uh, during the war in development
of aircraft skis. George Klein developed this snow kit to measure the snow properties so they could
study the snow in relation to the performance of aircraft speeds. This was in1943.
but in terms of avalanches... and then avalanche work through Rogers Pass,ya...
and in '57, ah, in '56 the Public Works approached
NRC to assist them in setting up the observation station, so they make...
That's another ...measuring the density of snow. That was a (?) research project. A very flat snow sampler.
and Public Works couldn't also hire someone from
other countries, but National Research Council, so they thought National Research Council hired me to come in
and assist Public Works.
