[J. Wade] Hi, I’m Jennifer Wade, your guest host
for the September 3rd edition of IUPUI’s The Spot. There are over a dozen Greek organizations o
n campus and involvement is on the rise. We spoke with Thomas Whitcher, the new Coordinator
for Fraternity and Sorority Life, about all the activity.
[T. Whitcher] I’m the Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life at IUPUI. I’m the first
coordinator here at the institution to work specifically with our Greek letter organizations.
My role here on campus is really to develop a foundation of support for our organizations
through program and policy implementation that we’ll be developing throughout this academic
year. We have 13 fraternities and sororities here o
n campus - six fraternities and seven sororities. Some of our big, key signature events that
we’ll be having his year is we’ll be having Hank Newer come to campus on September 25th
from 5 to7:00 right here in the Campus Center. Hank will be doing a talk on hazing culture and
not just specifically in Greek organizations but also in athletic organizations, high
schools and bands showing that hazing is no just a culture prevalent in Greek organizations
but also how are ways and steps that students can take to prevent a hazing culture. We’ll
also be having our annual Greek week come up during the third week of April which will be a
week long worth of festivities and community service events in which the entire Greek
community will come together and show their pride and spirit not only for their
organization and Fraternity and Sorority Life but also for IUPUI.
[J. Wade] Service and the City is a one-day long leadership and service experience held on
Friday, September 5th. After a tour of Indianapolis and lunch with community leaders,
head off to one of three service sites where you might help feed the poor, rebuild a house
or work with children. You can sign up for Service and the City by visiting the Campus and
Community Life Web site. Lead IUPUI kicks off its Emerging Leader

The IUPUI Jag Jaunt started last year as the primary fundraiser for women’s athletic
scholarships. This year’s Jag Jaunt will take place on Saturday, September 13th at 9 a.m. The
Spot spoke with Stacy Levack for more information. [Interview
] [S. Woodall] Hi, I’m Shawna Woodall. Today we’re
here with Stacy Levack, IUPUI’s women’s soccer player. And she’s going to tell us a little bit
about the upcoming Jag Jaunt. Stacy, can you tell us a little about what it is and why started.
[S. Levack] The Jag Jaunt is actually primary fundraiser for women’s athletic scholarships.
It started last year in 2007 and we raise money during a walk-a-thon. Everybody is eligible to
register. For students it’s $15 and for non-students it’s $25. We accept any pledges and
donations that you can get. [J. Wade]The walker who raises the most money
will receive a special grand prize. To sign up for the walk-a-thon visit www.iupuijags.com.
The Jaguars volleyball team fell short of victory losing to Tulsa 3 to 2. The loss comes
after a close comeback during the championship match at the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational.
Danielle Goodnight, with 53 assists, and Shari Bernhardt, with a third double-double, were
each named to the All-Tournament Team. The Jaguars will be playing again September 5th
during the Tiger Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
