Patient-Health Care Provider Interactions
Time to Talk for Children
A wide range of complementary and alternative medicine therapies
are used in children, including herbs and dietary supplements,
massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, naturopathy, and homeopathy.
To ensure coordinated and safe care,
tell your child's health care providers about any therapies
you are considering or using for your child.

about complementary and alternative medicine use
before examining the child.

and examines his throat and ears.
The physician asks the mother about the boy's medical history.
Time to Talk for Adults
Almost two-thirds of people aged 50 and older are using
some form of complementary and alternative medicine, or CAM.
Yet less than one-third of those people
talk with their providers about CAM use.
To ensure coordinated and safe care, tell your provider
about any CAM therapies you are using.
Two physicians are shown discussing the Time to Talk
toolkit provided by NCCAM.
The kit offers helpful tips for asking patients about
their complementary and alternative medicine use.

his use of complementary and alternative medicine
therapies with the help of the Time to Talk toolkit.
