Hi guys, Nathaniell here, and today we're gonna learn how
to use Twitter. So what I wanna cover in this training
tutorial is how to sign up for Twitter, how to use the basics
of Twitter. Some more advanced features of Twitter.
And then something called tweet deck. Where you
can manage your different Twitter accounts. And how
to use that. So first we're gonna need to sign up.
Pretty standard. Put in your name.
Email address. And a password.
Okay.
Ok most of the starter stuff We can skip, it's going to encourage you to follow some
celebrities and popular things and that's really not gonna help our business .
So what we're gonna do instead is go to our email inbox.
So once we're in our email account we're gonna confirm our Twitter
account and then we're gonna skip all that other following stuff.
So once we're inside our count were going to want to customize it.
And going into our brand or how we want to see it, and what
not, so good place to start is your profile image.
Okay, and then the header here, what that is going to be.
It's going to be this black area here. So, you
can use any picture you want but it's only going
to fill a certain amount of space. And you
can change your information
in here, you can put the name
of your website here. Write
a biography. You can connect it to your
Facebook account and then we're gonna save changes.
Okay and the other thing you can do is go to design and that's going to
design a background of your Twitter account so you can choose one of
the predetermined designs and you can upload your own background.
To upload the background,
your gonna first need to remove the one that's already installed.
The default background.
And you can click change background and upload a photo.
I can't remember the exact specifications of how big the image should be.
If you choose like a repetitive image.
[INAUDIBLE]
That it's not going to be a big deal.
Just to make it easier, we're gonna pick something that's
kind of repetitive or that I'm not particular about the position.
Okay, so once that's uploaded, that's pretty much your design that's set up.
One thing that you won't see in the video, cuz I'll
cut it out is I ran into a lot of bugs.
[MUSIC]
And whenever I set up, Twitter profile, I run into a
lot of problems uploading images and getting the background set up.
So, just kind of watch out for that.
For example, the background they're showing right now, when I save the changes it wasn't
actually showing it, but when I went over to my actual profile account and refreshed.
It showed the background.
So if you say it changes and you don't actually
see any changes go over to your profile and refresh it and see what happens.
That's just the design.
Now we're gonna look at the, the basics of Twitter so we're gonna look at
people to follow and then from that we will slowly start to get followers.
>>
[MUSIC]
>> And making some Tweets. So to find people to follow, you can
search for them in Search. So a good place to start is Kyle.
So to follow somebody, you can go to their Profile and click Follow.
There's PotPieGirl, you can follow her if you want to.
Then you can look for other people on WA, like whoever your friends are,
you can either ask them what their, it's actually called a
Twitter Handle, I've actually changed mine from Nathaniel WA to Nathaniel Test.
But, I won't be tweeting on this account so you want me to follow
someone that you can look for whoever your friends are you can ask them.
[MUSIC]
[UNKNOWN]
And then see what their Twitter handle is, if they wanna
follow you, or you can share it in wealthy affiliate somewhere.
So, then to make a Tweet directly from your Twitter profile, all you do is
go up here to the pen, click Compose a New Tweet, and you can write something.
[MUSIC]
And click Tweet, and there you go. That's your first tweet.
So anyone who is following you is going to receive a message that you have places
tweet, and that's gonna show up. In their little thing right here.
[MUSIC]
So then if you want to tweet at somebody
[MUSIC]
so I'm gonna tweet at my other account right now.
You can
[MUSIC]
I post a new tweet. Then you click an at symbol and
that's going to tweet to somebody, whatever their
other handle is. My other account is more coffee.
Please and then you can say whatever it is that you want to say.
[MUSIC]
So we're gonna take a look at that tweet
in the other account in just a second.
Second now a good way to find people to follow to
kinda get some ideas on how to use twitter and tickets and
some people may get may get some movement in your account
all you do is search on Google and then you can type
in whatever it is your industry is so if we're promoting how to build a website.
[MUSIC]
Put people to follow on Twitter for a word press.
And then people have these lists of, of whoever they think is influential.
[MUSIC]
So then you can find their Twitter handles here.
[MUSIC]
Click on and follow. So for the rest of the tutorial we're going
to look at my active Twitter account to kinda see what's going on with that.
So we're going to sign out of this one.
Okay so this is what your Twitter role is going to
look like with all the people you're following and all your tweets.
So for example
[MUSIC]
This guy, John Paul
[INAUDIBLE]
He tweeted tips on how to turn your boring old blog, and make it new again.
So he's posted a link.
He's posted something with a hashtag we're gonna look at in just a second.
to second, but then if I want to look at what you tweeted I just click on the link.
[MUSIC]
And so he's posted something from his blog. So now if I like it, if I think it's
useful, what I can do is I can retweet it. So to do that, there are 2 ways to do that.
One, I can click this retweet button here. And then I just click retweet.
Now what that's gonna do is it's gonna take his
post and it's going to tweet it to my followers.
So my followers won't be able to see what I
see in my twitter roll, but if tweet this to them,
it's going to give this John Paul guy credit for
the tweet, but it's going to show it to my people.
Now another way to do this Is you can actually highlight,
copy, compose a new tweet, then you
put the letters RT, which stands for re-tweet.
[MUSIC]
We put their name, then you paste their content and
then you can write a message. Now the difficult
thing about this is it needs to be a short message.
Because you're limited to how many characters you can actually put in the message.
So this only works if their original tweet is very short or I
suppose you could edit the tweet and write something.
And then you would tweet that.
Now this message is
[MUSIC]
Kind of general, kind of spammy so I'm not going to tweet that, but if
you really have something to say about someone
tweeted you can do it in this fashion.
I don't think someone is going to be worried about you editing their
original tweet as long as you're tweeting their content and giving them credit.
So you just remember to include this RT thing.
So then the other thing we're gonna look at is this thing called hashtags.
What a hashtag is, is it's this pound sign, or number sign, or crisscross,
whatever you wanna call it.
It's actually called a hashtag when you use it on Twitter.
[MUSIC]
And you can use it in two different ways.
One is to kind of summarize what your tweet is about.
And the other is to categorize it so it get's labeled with other tweets
[MUSIC]
So I'll show you that in just a
second. So for example if I want to
say, And as you can see, it changes
color there. And you can tweet that.
And that'll make the link clickable.
Now when you click on that Gonna take you
to all the other tweets where people are using the word hashtag.
That's why you'll see advertisements where they'll say
okay, to join this contest you just tweet us.
Yeah.
And use the hashtag so and so and so.
That way, they can, in the search bar here, they can put hashtag, the word they're
looking for and then all the tweets that are
related that use his hashtag will be listed here.
So if you want to search for a hashtag, you can see,
in just that time, seven new tweets with the word hashtag came out.
So if wanna look for hashtags, all you do is you type in the hashtag here.
[MUSIC]
And then you write the word you want to look for.
So here are all the hash tags coming up about wealthy
affiliate right now Hm, some of these people look familiar.
Okay, the other thing about hashtags is it all needs
to be all one word, so that's not gonna work.
That's gonna be two different words.
Okay, so some other things about tweets. So, let's look at YoungEntrepreneur.
Entrepreneur, we're gonna expand this tweet, we're gonna
see, so we can see one person re-tweeted this
tweet and some things about when it was tweeted
and who it was tweeted to, for general information.
We can also reply directly to a tweet.
So rather than searching for someone you want to talk to
[MUSIC]
The world-champion skier Jeremy Bloom's Unconventional Path to Entrepreneurship.
Here's the article.
Here's the author.
Then we hit reply, and then these are the people we're replying to, add sign,
and then their names. So we can either add somebody or take
them away. So if I wanna thank them for an article,
that's cool. Or I can ask them a question.
[MUSIC]
And then that's going to tweet directly to their account so that even if they
don't follow me or I don't follow them I can still tweet at them, and ask them something.
And you can also favorite something, so that's just gonna notify
your people, your followers that you favored, that you liked somebody's tweet.
I'm not 100% sure what the advantages or
disadvantages of that.
But it's just like a, as far as I know it's just a different status.
You know, you don't have to Retweet it, you don't have
to reply to someone to just say, okay, I like this.
And something I don't use much, you can email people Tweets or embed Tweets.
So if you want, if someone is saying something about your business and
you want to embed it in your website, you can get the code here.
And that's gonna tweet.
That's gonna embed this little portion, this little
tweet thing into your website like embedding a YouTube
video or embedding any other kind of information there.
Wait.
Maybe you can show people what other people are saying about your business or
you can embed other people's tweets to make a point, whatever you're writing about.
Whatever happens to be, that you want to do with that tweet on your
[MUSIC],
blog posts.
So the idea of tweeting is to be very social, it's not just about promoting content.
So the things we covered today are, finding people to connect with,
how to do a basic tweet to your followers, how to see
what other people are tweeting How to respond to those Tweets, how
to re-tweet those Tweets, and how to use Tweets in your website.
You might
be wondering how do I get people to follow me?
One, your friends are probably gonna follow you.
Friends from wealthy affiliate, or friends from your personal life.
You are going to probably get a ton of spam
followers, people that just follow just because they want to follow
more people because they, they're not actually interested in your
content, they're just, I get four or five followers every day.
And it's people that basically just want to promote their content.
So you can
kind of take the follower and just ignore them.
But getting quality followers that you actually communicate with and actually
care about what they say And people that you can talk to.
It's gonna take a while to, to build that up.
But once you start following people and get followers, then it's important to
use Twitter to actually communicate with them and not just promote your content.
So now that we're done with that, I wanna show you an app
[MUSIC]
Right now that I find really useful because I have a couple different accounts on Twitter,
and rather than sign in and sign out and sign in and sign out all day.
It takes a lot of time.
You can go to something called TweetDeck.
[MUSIC]
And you download and install the app on your
I guess this is just for a computer. A Mac or Windows.
[MUSIC]
And it wants that install that's installed. I get an app and it'll look like this.
Okay?
And then that's gonna organize all your tweets so that they're easy.
[MUSIC]
To look at. And easy to see what's, what's happening.
And it'll take a while to get used to it.
But, so, for example, I have a timeline.
This is my normal, this is the normal tweet roll that we were looking at there.
Okay? Interactions.
So, this is gonna be when people talk about you, or talk to you.
Okay?
So you can see this guy Gary O' Neil mentioned to me.
[MUSIC]
told him he had a broken link, he says, found it, bad link.
Kay, so I know I was mentioned in a tweet.
It's going to show me, all these people that are following me, like Kerry Lin Gayler
followed me, I don't know who this is, she's not anything to do with online business.
I looked at her profile, I'm don't know why she's following me.
[MUSIC]
All these people, I don't know.
So, they usually don't have anything interesting to say.
These are gonna be your private messages here.
And this is gonna be the activity role for people that you are following.
So, I'm following Matt
[UNKNOWN]
And this is telling Matt
[INAUDIBLE]
favorited something. Or Matt
[UNKNOWN]
followed who else? Or whoever else was tweeting at Matt
[UNKNOWN]
So this is gonna be really busy here.
You don't really have to
[MUSIC]
Pay attention to that right now, but it's good to see what, what's going on,
maybe get some ideas of who to follow or says I'm supposed to look at.
Right now, you really want to focus on the timeline and the interactions.
But TweetDeck is really useful because watch, when I click tweet here, it's
gonna give me a choice of which account I want to tweet from.
So if I have four different accounts, they'll all
be listed here, and then I can just tweet from this account.
And then I switch over to this account and tweet
from this account or I can tweet from all the accounts.
[MUSIC]
I will see all the activity listed in, that way
you have all your accounts listed in one place and
it's easy to keep track of, easy to Tweet from
and easy to get a broad overview of what's happening.
So that concludes my Twitter tutorial.

Thanks for watching. Bye.
