it expands and deepens the partnership that we already have in place with UAB
and relationship that we have in place with UAB that has become more symbiotic
over really the past 4 or 5 years and so
is so as far as the local aspect it helps us kind of
additionally bond that relationship and really
its kind of self-serving for us because the bank has needs we have
about 3,000 employees here in Birmingham we have specific areas
of employment that that we need good quality people for
and obviously we look to the local educational system higher educational
system to provide that
and a so UAB has been able to do that we went to
the BBVA Innovation Center and
we learned you know new products and new
um, services that they were going to offer in
the BBVA footprint an I guess
you can't really expect a product to work
worldwide because different areas respond differently to you know new
changes in
stuff about nature so just seeing how they
kinda deal with that difference in culture and
you know aspect of life it's really
interesting I think one of my favorite thing is that I've got to meet a lot of people
and they're all really friendly here so I've had a lot of wonderful experiences with
that and I think it's been great to be part of a team
because you know you don't really understand what it's like to work in you
know
the bank world the corporate world with a different group of people until you
actually do it and I think those are my favorite things like finding out that I
really did like it
and I'm glad I chose a major I did because I enjoy doing it
we want people to go over to Spain to see you know BBVA
as ubiquitous in Spain in there virtually on every street corner
where as in the United States we may not be as well known so when people go over
there
and this happens to me all the time people send me pictures from Spain or
Puerto Rico
you know mexico wherever where they see the BBVA name
and send me a picture back say you know this is your bank and so
were not as well known here so we send people over they come back
you know they kind of spread the story of
really the size of BBVA and I think the reach that the bank has
and so that that's a good thing for us as well when they come back
being in this internship program in a
global bank allows me to not just you know
know, be in one department I can learn from
other departments and a lot of times the audits
deal with other departments so you still get to
you still have that learning of different departments and not just
s strictly internal audits just learn like how to use the database is how to
do this and like
at the beginning the first week I felt like I had a question on everything
and now I can answer questions like if someone's like how do this I'm like oh wait
I know the answer to it I just think it's great and I think they should
definitely continue it
I mean it was a wonderful experience everybody I talked about is always so
jealous that I get to do this
the is great. Hopefully they will go overseas they'll see a different
culture
they'll see the way the economy works in that different culture
they can bring back ideally some ideas about best practices that we may
not know about here
up but then also I think that um again
exporting the bank kinda back into the United States
is a good thing we're one and I think 30 largest financial institutions and
the
in the world up but a lot of folks in the United States really
don't realize that our understand that so the more people we send over and they
come back I think that message kind of spreads
that's a good thing for us
