Hello world! Welcome in this speedpainting, that's a bit less useless that usual, cause it has a little tutorial inside
I've chosen Ariana Grande, because in the last period you've commented asking for her so much, praising her skills & beauty that.. here Ariana than!
the tutorial will be about Curls.
I recently saw a video of Debby Arts,.. Debby Arts, how I pronounce it bad XD
a video about drawing curls with pastels colors, here the link to her video if you don't know her :)
so I thought to make the same, but digitally
in reality it will be a very short tutorial, cause the original image needed only 8 minutes, so it's not very difficult
the work will be mainly done by the pen, the graphic tablet, cause with a mouse is almost impossible..
and a really cool brush, the one I usually use for the hair, that you'll love, in my opinion
if you think that the video is a bit weird, with this panel moving around, it's because my latest love for After Effects (software)
I need to edit everything. if you'll give me a dish of pasta, I'd feel obliged to edit even that one
now the speedpainting, and when it'll be the moment to draw the red curls od Ariana, I'll provide to show you how I did them :)
with the beautiful brush you'll find in the infobox
PS: the shaded pencil technique I'm using in this video is largely explained in an another video tutorial; you'll find it clicking on the icon..
in this one I'll explain just curls. to don't be repetitive..
to make the curls I use the Hair brush (in the infobox) that in my opinion makes the 70% of the work
and I take the hair color in 3 hues: dark, average and light
I start then with the brush, big size, creating a sort of zig-zag curve
then I identify the masses I want to pop out, the one that will be more close to me, to give a depth effect and tridimensionality
I use the same brush with a medium size and the average color, drawing the hair all in the same direction
thereafter I use the same brush, tiny size and the lighter color to give even more depth and sharpness
so it will seem you've drawn every single hair
finally if you want you can add even random hair, even with the dark color, because we don't have plastic hair, and it need to have a more natural and disordered lool
last touch: I create 1 or more layers above my hair, drawing light points with a white round shaded brush
and I set the Blending Modes of the Layers on Overlay or Linear Dodge
if I'm not satisfied I can add on a new layer, another spot of color, a lil bit less shaded, applying the same Blending Mode
in this way it will have a less natural, plasticky look, good in the case you're drawing for example mangas
this is basically the method I use. it's pretty easy, expecially if you take some photos of curly hair like reference to see how curls move
it will be more satisfying, because often we tend to be a bit repetitive when drawing by memory
so.. study photos! XD
like you've seen it's pretty simple, it's more matter of patience. and this cool brush :) it's a very good basis to make the hair
with this mini-tutorial I'm done :) like you see the picture is appearing..
hope you liked it, and it's a useful video, and.. see you next video! ♥
bye!
