Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. As the holiday travel season and winter
weather draw closer, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
suggests you prepare your vehicle accordingly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
recommends checking the condition of your vehicle’s battery, tires and windshield
wipers -- and replacing them if necessary. It’s also suggested that you add no-freeze
fluid in the washer reservoir and check your vehicle’s antifreeze. In addition, AAA suggests
you carry a number of emergency items in your vehicle. These include an ice scraper and
brush, jumper cables, flashlight, shovel and some sand or cat litter, for added traction.
For longer winter road trips, pack along some extra winter clothing, a blanket, first aid
kit, plus some food and water. Taking these precautions can help make your winter trip
safer, and you’ll be better prepared should an emergency occur. For emergency motorist
assistance on Kentucky’s interstates and parkways, call the SAFE Patrol at 877-FOR-KYTC.
With your KYTC Minute, I’m Miranda Thacker.
