A sex offender guilty of fabricating documents
to work in schools will be sentenced today.
Last month, Te Rito Henry-Miki (40) plead guilty to charges
for fabricating his CV and DoB to gain work in our schools.
Irena Smith reports from outside of the courthouse.
Irena, what can you tell us?
Scotty, the proceedings are still in motion in the case to sentence
Te Rito Miki for seven counts of tampering with official documents
and four counts of breaking conditions on his supervision order.
But today was the first time
we heard the affects Miki's actions had on the six schools involved.
We heard the testimony of a teacher
who had appointed Miki to work at his school.
He was so ashamed for doing so that he received counselling
to deal with the trauma of his actions.
At the moment, we await the judge's sentencing
for Te Rito Miki's crimes, Scotty.
As we await the sentence, what are his family saying, Irena?
His sister has arrived from Melbourne, Australia.
Her name is Rachael, and she is sitting in court at the moment.
The surprising thing perhaps is that she's not seen
her brother for over 20 years.
So this is the first time she's seen him in a long while.
She also said the first she heard
of the charges against her brother was on Facebook.
So she has arrived to see and hear for herself
what is happening to her brother.
I also spoke with his older brother today,
and he says that although the family are saddened by Miki's actions,
all they want is to help and support him.
Irena Smith, live from outside the Auckland District Court,
thank you.
